How do I "hide" no-longer-active accounts in the Account Bar but still include them in historical reports? I've checked the boxes for "Hide account name in the account bar and account list" & "Hide in transaction entry list" but the Account Names still appear in the Account Bar anyway. The box that is "not" checked is: "Keep the account separate - account will be excluded from Quicken reports and features".

Are these accounts still open but not really used anymore or have you actually closed the accounts at the financial institution?

There is a "Show hidden accounts" checkbox in the lower left corner on the accounts list. Make sure to uncheck it.

When creating reports, you always have the option to "Show Separate Accounts" if you choose to include them using the Customize feature.

For accounts I have closed, I mark closed, hidden, separate and even append the name with a z_ prefix so they sort to the bottom of any screen. This way, none of them appear during day-to-day use. If I run a report spanning quite a few years, I can always Show Separate Accounts" and add any i need, even all of them.

  • @RRSIdaho where are you seeing these accounts in the Account Bar? When you hide an account, they would still show under "More Accounts".

If your hidden accounts are still showing in the main area of the Account Bar, then the first troubleshooting step to try is a data file validate -

Click on File → Validate and Repair File, and then select "Validate File". After the validate completes, review the validate file log for any messages that need attention.

You can also do a "super validate". Hold Ctrl-Shift when clicking on "Validate and Repair File".

Have you Closed the accounts in Quicken? If they're open and just inactive they may continue to appear in the account bar. If you Close them (which cannot be reversed), then the options you've checked should hide them.

If they're inactive but not closed (such as a savings account with a few pennies in it, or a credit card you keep open but don't use), then adding a Z in front of the account name to move it to the bottom of any list or menu is probably the best you can do.
