Why is there a cleared balance before I start reconciling charges?

I'm reconciling my checking account like I do every month but before I start reconciling individual charges, there's already a negative Cleared Balance on the bottom right above the Statement Ending Balance. I successfully reconciled my checking account last month and have no idea where this amount is coming from. Any suggestions?

Look at the balance of the last reconciled transaction. If it doesn’t line up with what you reconciled to last a past transaction has changed. Looking at a backup might give you a clue on what change or if not maybe a place to try again.

EDIT Just to be clear the opening balance I was referring to is the first statement in the register.

Check the opening balance. There is a long standing bug that Quicken sometimes changes it, especially after a reset of an account or disabling downloading and reconnecting it.

Note that the Cleared Balance is calculated. If any of your reconcile transactions are changed for any reason that will affect the Cleared Balance amount.

Opening balance is correct. To make it even more bizarre, the amount is different now from what it was before. All of my uncleared transactions equal my purchases and my uncleared deposits also equals my credits and payments from my statement. I've verified that nothing different has been cleared or uncleared. I'm not sure what's going on. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I was not able to determine exactly what was wrong so I restored a backup and will re-enter the transactions from the new statement and try again. Thanks again.
