Is it possible to turn off the tips (lightbulb thing) at top of registers? (Q Mac)
I know I can hit the X to close a tip when it appears, but the real annoyance is when the tip appears at the top, it interferes with the register if the register is sorted with newest date at the bottom. The newest row or two is shifted down "off screen" until you close the tip, because the top of the register has been pushed down to make room for the tip at the top. When I close the tip, the register slides back up to where it should be, and the bottom rows re-appear.
This isn't a problem when the newest transaction is at the top - the entire register moves down and the topmost transaction remains where you'd expect it to be.
I haven't found a setting to disable the tips but perhaps it's there somewhere.
Thanks.

Is this Quicken for Mac (QMac) or Quicken for Windows?

Howdy, again, @qudtp. Thanks for the screenshot! That really helped.
I was going to say that I never recalled such tips in QMac, but now I vaguely recall those in QMac-and that was years ago (8-10?)
If I recall, they were annoying things I dismissed (I had already adjusted to having newest transactions at the top which I prefer), and they never returned upon confirmation. But, I could be wrong. I can't reproduce them now, and I don't know of any preference for tool tips.
Perhaps some of the other older users (such as myself) recall these and can provide insight.

I don't know of a way to turn those tips off; going through the preferences file I don't even see a hidden preference that looks like it would control that. It may just be something Quicken automatically shows you until you've been using the program for a certain amount of time.

I can elicit them by just selecting one account after another - eventually one will pop up.
Just got one - it's not a smart tip. This one says I can add Withdrawal, Deposit and Clear columns but I already have those in every account including the one where it is showing the tip.
In every one of my investment accounts, the tip shown is I can add Cash Out, Cash In, and Clear columns. I close them and for now they aren't recurring.
I may adapt to "new on top." I'm trying, but I have a 25-year history of "new on bottom" with Quicken for Windows, and that's a lot of habit that may not be worth changing, especially if the "tips" quiet down which would resolve the little UI glitch.
I guess the original model of new on the bottom is how we always used paper checkbook registers, and that's still how monthly checking, savings, credit card and investment statements are printed. But online, the same institutions are showing new first, which makes sense given the amount of history that's available - the UI for putting older on stop would be awkward unless it only ever showed the current period, or went back to the account opening, or some number of years - and that info is not what most people want to see. I think everyone is used to working with both the printed and online display flavors and not even thinking about the discrepancy.

I sort my registers with new transactions at the bottom and it hasn't been an issue. So I think once those tips stop appearing you won;t have any further issues with sorting things that way.
