Incorrect account value in investment report but correct value in account bar?

I have a half dozen investment accounts in Quicken.  I have recently noticed that in the investment reports it lists an incorrect (higher) account value.  The share balances and cash balance are all correct.  The account value shown in the account bar is correct.  The holdings are correct.

After searching through the transactions it appears that the amount of the value discrepancy is equal to a reinvested dividend back in 2019.  I am not sure when this discrepancy first occurred but I know it wasn't 6 years ago!

I tried to simply delete that transaction but that didn't solve the problem.  It simply created a different error amount (after reconciling shares and cash balances).  I sold the entire security position back in 2021 and tried editing that transaction to "sell all" keeping the total amount the same and letting Quicken adjust price.  The error still is there.

I also did a super validation on the file as well as share balance recalculation.  Those didn't help.

I only noticed it because I export a report of all my accounts into an Excel file and I happened to notice a couple days ago that the TOTAL Value of that account was off by $125.72.  It still is off by that amount.

Any ideas or help?

I'm glad to hear that archiving investment transactions seems to have resolved the issue.

Typically, unusual behavior like that is caused file-specific issues.  Since archiving the transactions seems to have corrected the problem, it is likely that some of the data in those older transactions was starting to degrade, causing the report to "see" information that was not visible in the account.

Hi @Quicken Kristina , Thanks for the reply. I will do my best to answer your questions. Is this impacting all six accounts? No, only the one account. You mentioned that deleting the problem transaction created a different error amount. Is that an error only in the report, or does it throw off the balance in the impacted accounts also? The actual cash balance of the account is Zero. Deleting the transaction (a purchase) did change the cash balance to $125.72 as expected. The total account value in the account bar then still matches the securities value plus that $125.72. However, in the report, the Total value shown is still $125.72 too much. When I update the cash balance and create a correcting entry, then again everything is correct except that the Total Value in the report is $125.72 too high. Does limiting the date range of the report prevent the discrepancy from reflecting, or do you still have the incorrect amount showing? Great question. Yes I did check that and it didn't make any difference. If the problem positions are closed out, then archiving your investment transactions may help. To do that, backup your Quicken file, then follow the instructions in this article: https://info.quicken.com/win/how-do-i-archive-investment-transactions The position is closed out so I will give that a try…. That seemed to have solved the problem. Now the Total value of the account as shown in the report and as shown in the account bar match. I still am surprised that the report, which should just take the information from the account holdings and transactions, would differ from the account when view within Quicken.
