I've been a Quicken Mac user since the late 1990s. Years ago, Quicken Mac allowed users to download all transactions with the payee assigned by the bank (unmodified) and would assign all transactions as "Uncategorized". I could then use the QuickFill Rules when manually entering details for my transactions.
This method allowed me to instantly know which transactions I hadn't addressed while having the convenience of "manually" using the QuickFill feature for common transactions like buying fuel at the same gas station I usually go to.
With new transactions categorized as "Uncategorized", I could also filter by "Uncategorized" so I can view only the transactions that I haven't entered details for or attached a receipt to.
Since a couple years ago, Quicken started automatically using the QuickFill data to populate all the newly downloaded transactions, regardless of the settings I choose in the settings window.
Even with the "blue dot" indication of reviewed transactions, it still creates problems for me because
- If I don't catch one of the automatically assigned transactions that is not correct, it messes up the reports I run
- I can't sort by "Uncategorized" to see just the transactions I need to enter details/receipts for
I get that tech-savvy newbies in the AI generation might like all their transactions automatically assigned (regardless of the accuracy), but for us old folks, please create a checkbox that makes it so transactions can be downloaded "old school" with the payee name assigned by the bank, the category as "Uncategorized" and all other fields blank-just like they used to be until a couple years ago.
Just make it a checkbox so those of us who want the unmodified downloads can do so while still being able to utilize the QuickFill feature for entering transaction details. Then, the user can have the option of having their transaction details automatically entered or not.
