Historical Security Prices

I ran a report via quicken on my investments and noticed some weird results on account return history. In this example, I have a security that I have owned since 2009 and all of the price history from that security is deleted before 4/13/2011. I generated a csv file to import history prior to this and even when the import reports positive success for updating 24 records, when I go into the edit price history, it shows nothing before the 4/13/2011 date. I pulled in values back to 2009.

I found this article on Quicken

Mutual Funds are Not Updating Prices | Quicken

However, restoring a backup from 2011 and entering 14 years worth of transactions to catch up is not reasonable. Anyone have another solution so I get my investment reports correct?

Can you give some sample entries fro the CSV file so we can see the formatting?

That you imported 24 prices (purportedly successfully) yet they do not show suggests some level of corruption in the internal price history file. You might try the following:

    • Change the ticker for the security in a simple fashion, like from VEIPX to VEIPX-2.
    • Accept the 'copy' option that VEIPX prices would be copied to VEIPX-2.
    • Also accept the 'delete' option deleting the prior VEIPX prices.
    • Repeat, changing the ticker back to VEIPX with the same option selections.

I think there is a reasonable chance that whatever bad record is preventing the older prices from showing will be eliminated. It may be that after that exercise, you will need to and can import the 24 prices you tried.

Thanks for the suggestion q_lurker. I tried your solution as well as another variation to import the 24 prices into the renamed VEIPX-2 ticker and that did not work. I have also tried to manually add a new price with a date prior to 4/13/2011 and the record will not show in the price history.

I have other stocks with price history that go back before 4/13/2011.

    Any other ideas out there?

Have you tried Validating and Super Validating your data file?

For your stocks with a long price history, are you able to add prices before 4/13/2011? (you can delete them later if you want)

If you add a new security that you have never held, are you able to add prices prior to 4/13/2011?

Be sure to back up your data before trying these experiments.

What about if you create a new test file and try adding old prices?

The object of these experiments is to tell whether the problem is with Quicken or with your data file.

Also if you go to Help > About Quicken, what version are you currently running?

    hi Jim_Harman -

I did a validate file and that partially worked - adequately to pull in the historical prices before 4/13/2011 for where there were transactions. I was also then able to enter price history prior to the April 2011 date as well.

I was able to enter prior history prices for other securities, but not this one. The validate seems to have worked this time as I have tried this in the past and it did not. Maybe the Q team enhanced the validate process.

    Thanks!
