Most of my accounts were renamed 'N/A'... Looking for any help to resolve

This issue occured about a month ago. I've continued to download, Etc. However, these downloads are working - but the transactions are being placed into what is now N/A account names. I cannot determine if they are accurate and/or what goes where.

I attempted to resolve by spending a couple of hours with regular support. But the second I mentioned Beta, all support stopped. They suddenly stopped assisting me and sent me here.

I've completed all the troubleshooting steps, including Super Validation, Etc, but to no avail.

Any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

If you go to Tools > Account List and some or all of the accounts are called "N/A," you should be able to click on Edit next to the account name. For accounts that are connected for transaction downloading, the General tab will show the name of the financial institution and at least the last 4 digits of the account number.

From that, you should be able to figure out what you have been calling each account and correct the name on the same page.

The account name shown in Quicken is just for display and reporting purposes, it is not used when downloading.

You should compare the recent transactions in each account to statements or the account's website to make sure they belong in that account. If not, the account is not matched to the correct online account and you will have to restore a backup from before the mismatch occurred or reconnect the accounts to the correct online accounts and move the incorrect transactions to the correct account(s).

Thanks Jim… I have an issue related to this I failed to include the first time. It's not only the names that have changed to N/A, but the downloaded transactions as well.

I'm thinking I may have a corrupt data file, but unsure of actions to take without losing years of data - to include current details.

If you don't have a decent backup to fall back on (I take daily manual backups and keep them for a year), then I'd suggest creating a new data file using File > Backup or Copy File > Create a copy or template > copy ALL data for all accounts and all dates. Unlike copy a file or create a backup, this process reads your current data file and creates a new file record by record. In the process it discards a lot of records that have been deleted or might otherwise contain garbage.

Then, carefully go through your accounts and transactions and identify and fix everything you can. Make sure your Opening Balance is set correctly for each account (either zero with a date before opening, or put your actual correct opening balance into the memo field).

The process above creates a file that is connected to none of your financial institutions. You will need to reauthorize each and every download link once you think you've corrected your data. Doing so may modify opening balances, so you'll want to verify those again after.

It's a lot of work, depending on how bad the corruption is. Fortunately in my experience most of the historical records aren't affected; only recent records, so you should be able to recover from it using recent bank statements and information on their websites.

I appreciate your responses. While I do daily backups as well, for some reason the ones prior to this N/A situation did not save for about a week before this occured.

So, I wanted to ask if there was any merit in using the last backup I have before this happened? Everything was working great until the one day it all changed - out of the blue.

Something caused this to happen… and I don't want to go through this again. Bob, as you said this is alot of work. I have 78 different accounts to relink, etc.

Hoping there's another option than starting from ground zero.

Restoring from a "known good" backup is, IMHO, the best solution. If the backup is a week old, then that's all you have to reenter and/or redownload, as far as lost transactions is concerned.

I'd keep @Bob@45 's suggestion on the backburner, incase restoring and reentering doesn't get you back up and running.

Either way, do be sure to verify your Edit / Preferences / Backup settings to make sure they're still doing daily backups, both Manual and Automatic "every 1 times you close Quicken".
