Automatic entry ignoring settings

I have used automatic transaction entry for as long as I can remember; recently entries have appeared that are outside of the time settings I've provided for some transactions. Most transactions adhere to my settings - I request entry 60 days ahead and they appear 60 days ahead. However, several entries are appearing over a year ahead of the actual transaction date. Needless to say this clutters up the register and is distracting. I didn't report it right away as I assumed I made an error; after confirming the settings were as intended, I just deleted the unneeded entries. However, they reappear the next day.

To help narrow this down, could you share a bit more detail?

Where is your Quicken data file stored—on your local hard drive (like the C: drive), or on a cloud/external drive (OneDrive, Dropbox, USB, etc.)?
Have you tried any troubleshooting steps already, and if so, what were they?
When did you first start noticing this behavior?
Were there any updates or other changes to your system/software right before it began?

File is on local storage

Have not tried any troubleshooting, but have confirmed settings in the reminder page

Behavior has been present for approximately 2 months, but has been getting worse; I now have some transactions scheduled for 2029

I'm not aware of any other s/w changes; I have Windows updates automatically installed, but I don't have any other software that I routinely update.

For reference, the current windows version on this machine is 10.0.26100 Build 26100

Based on your description, it sounds like the future-dated automatic entries might be caused by some data inconsistencies within your Quicken file. Sometimes when reminders or transactions are behaving unusually, validating or super validating the file can identify and correct hidden issues in the data that aren’t visible in the register or reminders list.

To start with, I suggest that you please try validating and/or super validating your data file. However, I do recommend that you first save a backup file prior to performing these steps.

Validate:

File
Validate and Repair File...
Validate File
Click OK
Close the Data Log
Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, proceed to Super Validate. If the issue is resolved after performing validation, then please disregard the instructions to Super Validate.

Super Validate:

File
Hold CTRL + Shift and click Validate and Repair File...
Super Validate File
Click OK
Close the Data Log
Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Thanks, Anja. The validation log noted that it fixed items having to do with scheduling of recurring reminders; if i understand how quicken works, though, I'll need to delete all the existing unnecessary reminders and review the reminders to edit the "next date" - but at least I shouldn't get any additional reminders for the next decade.

Yes, you’re correct—once validation has repaired the underlying scheduling issue, you’ll still want to clean up any of the “extra” future-dated reminders that were already generated and double-check the “next due date” settings on your active reminders. That should keep things on track going forward without the entries piling up again.

Validation did not eliminate the problem; no errors were detected when I executed super validation. I was unable to edit the "Due next on" field after deleting inappropriately early entries, and got the message "You cannot create a reminder for a date before your most recent payment. Please enter a later date." when I tried.
