Missing transactions when upgrading from 2017

Hi, I am a 2017 user and recently had to reset my computer and decided to subscribe to the latest version of Quicken so that I could continue to use Quicken.

I have transactions dating back to 2000 and my QDF file is ~400Mb.

After installing the latest version of Classic and opening my QDF file, I noticed that

  • transactions from the last 3 to 4 years were missing which causes an improper current balance
  • some accounts have the name as N/A and have nothing in Account Details and I can't figure out a pattern for why some became N/A
  • comments I wrote in the account details were not 'brought over'
  • 1 account has the correct balance but with no transactions (newer account)
  • 1 loan account has no loan details, the other has details
  • The errors in the log indicate Category errors and a couple transaction errors

I tried the following -

  • restore a backup and got the same issues
  • validate the original files as well as a few of the quicken backups
  • Note that 2017 was working fine until I reset my computer so no issues with the data file

Quicken support could not help so I am turning to the community to see if anyone has any ideas and if I will continue to be a Quicken user

Thanks!

Ken

I have always had the notion that one should File Copy and Validate & Repair in the old version before performing a major update. This gives the converter nice clean data to convert.

If you can reinstall 2017 and get it to its latest patch level, it might be worth it to clean up the old data file before updating to Subscription. Sorry I don't have any better or easier solutions.

Quicken user since version 2 for DOS, as of 2025 using QWin Premier (US) on Win10 Pro & Win11 Pro on 2 PCs.
