I have a new Windows 11 PC Desktop and want to use my backup/restore from my old computer.

Question

Just received my new Windows 11 Desktop today.  I went online to download Quicken Classic Deluxe.  I have V. R64.30.  Build. 27.1.64.30.  I've been using Quicken for decades.  I have a lot of data on this one checking account that is backed up on a USB drive.  I have the backup of my quicken from my old computer on a USB drive.  The backup is from June 2025, the last time I entered any data.  I would imagine the download of Quicken done today has a newer, updated version of Quicken than my old computer/desktop.

As I open my Quicken from my subscription, there is no data to see.  The issue is getting my decades of data onto the new desktop.  Is it as simple as plugging in the USB drive and "restoring" the data now to my new desktop?

Yes, it's pretty simple to transfer your data over to your new computer. Confirm that the USB drive contains the latest backup before proceeding. With the USB drive installed on your new computer, you will want to copy it over to a folder using File Explorer. Because Windows 11 defaults to syncing you Documents folder to the cloud you should create a local folder. Failing to do this risks corrupting your Quicken data file. I use Local Files. Then create the Quicken folder under this. Copy the backup to Local Files>Quicken>Backup. Then you can open Quicken, select restore and save to the Quicken folder.

Yes, assuming you had a subscription version of Quicken on the old computer, all you should need to do is to restore the backup from the USB drive to the new computer.
