Feature Request: Dual Attachment Storage in Quicken Classic
Title: Add Option to Save Attachments to External Folder When Embedding in Quicken
Description:When attaching documents to transactions in Quicken Classic, the current behavior embeds the file directly into the data file. While this is useful for portability, it increases file size and creates risk if the data file becomes corrupted.
Suggested Enhancement:Introduce a user-configurable option that allows Quicken to automatically save a copy of each attachment to a specified external folder (e.g., Dropbox, OneDrive, local drive) at the time of embedding.
Benefits:
- Ensures redundancy and protects against data loss
- Allows users to access attachments outside of Quicken
- Supports better organization and external backup strategies
- Reduces reliance on embedded-only storage
Implementation Ideas:
- Add a setting under Preferences > Attachments:“Also save attachment to folder: [Choose Folder]”
- Optional folder rules:
- Organize by account name
- Organize by transaction date
- Organize by category
This feature would greatly improve attachment management and data resilience for users who rely heavily on Quicken for financial documentation.
