Previously used register memos are being pulled into downloaded transactions
When I download transaction from institutions and Quicken renames them from what they are named by the institution, Quicken includes in that rename previously used register memos for that payee. For example.. Home Depot is being renamed from The Home Depot Birmingham Al to " "Home Depot" but it is also pulling into that rename previously used memo text. See attachement.
I had never seen this issue in the recent past and I looked at renaming rules and memorized payees but didnt see any setting that would cause this. And this is something that has been occuring recentloy. I do not want memos including in my transaction downloads. Been using Quicken Business, Rental, Personal for 10+ years

Hello @jnprop,
Thank you for sharing your experience, and I am happy to help.
I think this issue is most likely being caused by Renaming Rules. Take a look a your Renaming Rules, see if you have any for Home Depot. If you do, ensure that you only have one rule for this payee, and that it doesn't include the memo as part of the name. Repeat these steps for any payees you are seeing this happen with.
If there was some cleanup needed, you would then update your accounts again and see if the issue continues.
Let me know if this resolves the issue.

Another thing Ive just noticed is when I select a choice from the dropdown menu it only updates the payee name… it does not update the memo or the category that is memorized in the drop down menu. It leaves the memo and category as it is in the screenshot for all selections. I have to manually delete those fields and I note this for all payees…. Its like the Memo and category are locked on one selection and it is not in the memorized list.

@Quicken Alyssa I think you are misinterpreting the screenshot. The first screenshot is of the Downloaded Transactions tab, and the part after the / is the downloaded memo.
@jnprop What is the connection method (Web Connect/QFX file, Direct Connect, Express Web Connect, or Express Web Connect + which you should be able to see in the top right of the register? And what is the financial institution? Also, are you using Sync to Mobile/Web.
To explain why this is very unusual I'm going go through the processing that Quicken does.
Renaming, if done will be done as the transactions are downloaded. This means that the renaming of the payee is done by the time the transaction shows up in the Downloaded Transactions tab. But the at this point in time nothing is done with the memo. The memo you are seeing is being "downloaded". Whether that is coming directly from the financial institution or maybe from one of the servers might depended on the connection method or if Sync to Mobile/Web is on (it shouldn't but I can't rule it out).
At no time are the Renaming Rules responsible for changing the memo. It would be the Memorized Payee being matched that has a memo in it that would do it. As in, in general the renaming rules are used to normalize the payee's name so that it will match a Memorized Payee, and it is this Memorized Payee that holds the information like the category and memo.
Matching of the Memorized Payee isn't done until you select the transaction in the Downloaded Transactions tab. What's more the downloaded memo overrides the memo in the Memorized Payee list if it is there.
Given that neither of your Memorized Payees have this memo, and even one of them has a different memo, shows that is working as expected, the downloaded one is the one that is "winning".
Why is this happening? I have no idea.
There is a possible workaround, but it would be better to track down where the problem comes from. This might be something that would be best of Quicken Support was contacted and they look at the logs to see if they can tell where the memo comes in. I would also run Validate and Repair to see if that helps. Another thing that could be tried is to create a new data file and see if the problem is in there.
At any case the possible workaround is to tell Quicken to ignore the downloaded memo. You can do that by going to the Account Details → Online Services tab, and there is an option at the bottom of the dialog.
