Bank of America web connectivity for outside US

I have been using Quicken for 30 years in Canada. I worked in the US for15 years so have accounts with BofA. I have been able to connect and download account date using QFX for years. Now that BofA is no longer supporting this I can't get access. Quicken Canada doesn't recognize BofA as a bank to connect to. In todays financial world is Quicken really only a one country program? i.e. you can only use it for accounts in your own country?

Quicken Windows Canada does allow importing Canadian QFX files in currencies other than CAD (Quicken Windows US doesn’t it will only import USD).

But one thing that should be true of both is that they both have their own separate list of financial institutions they support (Quicken Mac actually supports both countries and has only one such list).

So, first clarify which version of Quicken you are using.

It seems to me if you have been importing US BofA QFX files you should be using Quick Windows US and if that is the case you should be able to switch to Express Web Connect + (Quicken Windows Canada doesn’t have any financial institutions that support Express Web Connect +).

I am using Quicken Classic Deluxe Canadian Version 64.31 90% of my portfolio is Canadian based so it makes sense to use the Canadian version. However, for the BofA accounts in US I could previously download the US QFX files….now its not an option. The Canadian version doesn't have BofA as an Express Web Connect + option.

So it looks like the only option is manual entries, right?

I find it interesting that you were able to do it at all in the past. In theory it shouldn't have allowed it.

The US version should be using this list:

https://ofx-prod-filist.intuit.com/qw2800/data/fidir.txt

And the Canadian version should be using this list:

https://ofx-prod-filist.intuit.com/qw2800-can/data/fidir-c.txt

There are some financial institutions that overlap both lists, but BofA isn't one of them.

I'm wondering if Quicken Windows Canadian is actually looking at both lists.

At any rate there are a couple of ways to get around this. One is for as long as BofA keeps the QFX file export on their website you can just edit the INTU.BID to change it to another financial institution that still supports Web Connect/QFX files for the account type you have. The non-investment account types are BANKING and CREDIT. The number you are looking for is the first one on the line. For investment accounts which would be Merrill Lynch it would be INVESTMENT for brokerage accounts and 401K for retirement accounts.

My free program ImportQIF can do this edit for you, and if BofA stops putting out the QFX file you can also use it to convert from Excel/CSV files to either QIF or QFX.

Ok thanks BofA does do CSV files… so maybe converting them is the way to go.
