Can a QXF Export retain linkage to a checking account?

I have an investment account that has a linked checking account (Show cash in a checking account=Yes).

I'm trying to export the two linked accounts to create a new & separate Quicken data file for these account alone. When after Importing from the Export into an empty Quicken data file, the resulting investment account no longer has that linkage (Show cash in a checking account=No). The formerly linked checking account does have all the history, but it remains unlinked to its investment account. When I set the option to Yes in the new file following the import, Quicken just creates a new and empty account with a "1" suffix.

Is there a better way to accomplish this task of export/import such that the linked checking account remains linked and contains all the history?

I'm running Quicken Classic Deluxe R65.17 on Windows 11 Enterprise

    You might try

    • undoing the link in the original file. All the cash transactions should move back to the investment account.
    • Export the investment account to the new file,
    • Reset the account in the new file to have the linked cash account. The cash transactions should move to the linked cash account.

While toggling the link used to be reliable, I understand that issues can arise from that step these days. Backup your file first, just to be safe.

I have never found the undoing of the link to be reliable. I guess it has always depended on the transactions or something.

I'm not surprised that a QXF export/import loses the link, and I expect it to mess up just like it does when import into Quicken Mac. The QXF file format was original (and pretty much to this day) to allow Windows user to convert their data files to Quicken Mac. Quicken Mac to this day doesn't support linked checking accounts, so it isn't any surprise that the QXF routines don't support this.

Export/Importing of QXF on Windows has also been a problem for my data file. I don't believe it is the linked checking accounts though because I haven't used them in years and those accounts don't seem to have the problem. Others have reported it working for them though.

But they just changed it again to allow for exporting only selective accounts. I tried it with one account and that seemed to work, but as for all the accounts it seems to be in worse shape than before. I have seen one other person post on here saying the same.
