Quicken Classic Deluxe - Find Selects All Transactions

I decided to upgrade from Quicken 2017 to Quicken Deluxe. Still skeptical but started using the app. Now when I try to perform a find and replace in transactions, all transactions after clicking on find are highlighted by default. How do I disable this?

Thank you in advance.

What you’re seeing is normal behavior in newer versions of Quicken (including Quicken Deluxe) and, unfortunately, it cannot be turned off.

When you use Find & Replace (or even just Find) in Quicken Deluxe:

    • Quicken automatically highlights all matching transactions in the register.
    • This is intentional so you can:
      • Visually review everything that will be affected
      • Apply Replace to all, or
      • Manually edit selected transactions

In Quicken 2017, the behavior was more subtle and often looked like only one transaction was selected, which is why this feels new (and annoying). There is currently no preference or setting to prevent Quicken from highlighting all matching transactions after a Find. This has been a long-standing complaint in the Quicken user community, and Quicken has not provided a toggle for it.

While you can’t disable the highlighting, try the following:

    1. Instead of a broad search, narrow your Find criteria.

    • Add date ranges
    • Specify exact payee names
    • Use amount filters

This reduces how many transactions get highlighted.

    2. Use Replace carefully

    If you’re doing a Replace:

    • Review the highlighted transactions
    • Use “Replace All” only when you’re certain there’s no “preview without highlighting” option anymore.

    3. Undo is your safety net

    If something goes wrong try:

    • Ctrl + Z immediately after a Replace
    • Or restore from your automatic Quicken backup

The bottom line is this is expected behavior in Quicken Deluxe and there is no way to disable the auto-highlighting so the best practice is narrowing searches and relying on Undo/backups
