I want to set a password for my file yet it says I'm not authorized. Why?

I just now successfully set, and then un-set, a password for my Q data file, without any problem. The password that I used was entirely letters.

SO, I'm sorta guessing here but by any chance are there any special characters in the pwd you were trying to set? If so, which? Q sometimes has problems with some special characters

OK yet why say I'm not authorized? If there are invalid characters for a password I would expect a different message. I will try. PS. What is this vault password I see mentioned?

We're other users and can't answer "why" type questions. We don't know "why" either.

The Vault is where your ID's and passwords for any online connected accounts are stored. It's entirely separate from your data file password.

Unless somebody from Quicken chimes in here with a better idea or solution, I'm going to fire a shot into the dark:

Are you running Quicken on a "regular" (restricted) Windows User Account or an account with Windows Admin Privileges?
If you're using a restricted account, switch to an Admin account and try Quicken again.

While I'm thinking about this … also please try this:

In Quicken click on Help / Refresh Sign in
Sometimes an issue between Quicken on your PC and the Quicken Server may cause unexpected results. Refreshing the Sign in (or Signing out, then Signing back in) may resolve the issue.
