Bill and Income Reminders window no longer shows cash balance when hovering mouse

I'm running Quicken Deluxe version R65.174, build 27.1.65.17 on a new PC running Windows 11 version 25H2, build 26200.7171 and I can no longer see the exact daily cash balances when I hover my mouse cursor over the bars in the bar graph for each day.

I was able to see those balances under Windows 10.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Tell us more about your new Windows 11 computer, please.
What is the screen size (13", 15", 17", etc.) and screen resolution?
Do you have more than one monitor? If so, is Quicken running on monitor #2?

I have two monitors, each running at 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz and each connected to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card with 8 GB GDDR6.

The monitors are (the same ones as I used with my older Windows 10 Pro PC). Here they are:

24-inch LG 24MR400-BB LED LCD connected to PC with an HDMI-to-DisplayPort adapter.
23.8-inch Acer KA242Y LCD connected to PC with an HDMI-to-DisplayPort adapter.

PC has:
Intel Core Ultra 7 265 CPU at 2.40 GHz with 20 cores (Arrow Lake).
Windows 11 Home version 25H2, build 26200.7171.
Two 16 GB DIMMs DDR-5-5600 MT/s = 32 GB RAM.
Samsung 1 TB PCIe Gen 4.0 x4 NVMe M.2 SSD, Model MZVL81T0HFLB-00BH1.

I usually run Quicken on Monitor #2 (Acer monitor), but I also tried running it on Monitor #1 (LG monitor). There was no difference.

I had turned off most Windows 11 animation effects so I turned them back on just to test whether it would have any effect. It had no effect, so I went back to my original custom animation settings.

Please try the following procedure:
- Close Quicken !!! (This process won't work while Quicken is running!)
- Check the Compatibility tab settings in your Quicken Desktop program icon:
- In the Windows Start Menu right-click the Quicken icon. Select "Open File Location". This brings up a Windows File Explorer window. Right-click the highlighted Quicken shortcut line item.
or
- Go to the traditional Windows Desktop and right-click the Quicken program icon.
or
- Use Windows File Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\ and right-click qw.exe
- Now click Properties.
- Select the Compatibility tab.
- Uncheck all settings.
- Windows 7, 8.1: Check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".
Windows 10, 11: Click "Change high DPI settings". Check "Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:" and select "Application" (also try the other available options repeating the entire procedure!). Click OK.

Users with high resolution monitors, 3840x2160 with 225% scaling, try "System (Enhanced)"

- Be sure to uncheck the "Run this program in compatibility mode for [older Windows version]" setting.
- Click the "Change settings for all users" button.
- Click Apply and exit.
- Reboot Windows.
- Now start Quicken and see if that makes a difference.

Some additional tuning suggestions:
- System requirements: 1024x768 or higher screen resolution, 1280x1024 minimum for Large Fonts settings
- Unless absolutely required, try not to use "View / Use large fonts"
- Try setting the bank account registers to use a different font style or size: go to Edit / Preferences / Register, click the Fonts button and try different fonts.
- Try adjusting the bank account registers' row height: go to Edit / Preferences / Register, choose among the available Row Height choices: Compact, Comfortable or Standard
- If all else fails, try changing Windows Control Panel / Display options for "Make text and other items … smaller or larger" to use a different scaling level, but try not to exceed 125%
- Try using the Windows Magnifier. Press the Windows logo key and the = key to open Magnifier. Customize Magnifier to increment Zoom in 25% intervals. Also try "dark mode" by using inverted colors.

I went through every single suggestion that you mentioned. Sadly, none of them fixed the problem.

Since the Compatibility settings changes did not work, I reverted to the earlier setting of "Change High DPI Settings" and unchecked the "Override high DPI scaling behavior" setting and then rebooting.

I went back to my old Win 10 PC and opened Quicken. It prodded me to do an update, but I chose not to update and opened my data file. Quicken at that point was on Release 64.35. The cash balances for each day showed up in the Bill and Income Reminders window, as usual. I then opted to update Quicken and it installed Release 65.174, the same release that I'm running on my Win 11 PC. Again, the cash balances showed up in the Bills and Reminders window on my Win 10 PC. Therefore, the problem does not seem to be caused by the Quicken update.

A real stumper, yes?

Fortunately, this is not a major problem. I can see approximate cash balances by looking at the bar graph. It is odd, though, why it's even happening.

I'm sorry to hear that this didn't work.
Have you checked to see if you are running with the latest available display and/or graphics drivers, downloaded directly from the manufacturer? Drivers included with the Windows installation material may not be up to date.

Odd that I haven't found anyone else reporting this problem. Either it's something that nobody uses or notices, or it's specific to my setup.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm not able to replicate the issue in my Quicken. The fact that it works on your Windows 10 computer, but not on the Windows 11 computer makes it sound like something specific to the setup on that computer.

Is there anything different about the Windows 11 computer which may be triggering this? Different accessibility settings, maybe a different program that's interfering with Quicken? You mentioned that it's the same monitors and a dual monitor setup. Is the pop up maybe showing up, but on the other monitor? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicken on the Windows 11 computer, just in case it's a program issue?

I agree that it seems to be specific to my particular Win 11 settings or, less likely, to a Quicken setting. If I only knew which setting is doing this. 😉

I just finished uninstalling and reinstalling Quicken; I'm now on version R65.29, build 27.1.65.29—and the problem persists. 🤥

I'm not going to lose sleep over it. It's just an interesting puzzle to me at this point.

I ran into this problem a couple of years back. Turned out that in my case, running my browser in background was causing the problem. I shut down the browser and it worked fine. Can't explain it, and it eventually resolved itself (most likely after a Quicken and/or Chrome update).

If you're running a browser, shut it down and see if that has any effect. If by some chance it does, try using a different browser and see if that helps.

Thank you for the suggestion, mrzookie. I tried closing my browser (Edge), then I closed out of Quicken and relaunched Quicken.

No change. 😔

It was worth a shot. I was pretty sure it was not going to work because I always have my browser open at all times and Quicken (on my Win 10 PC) never had this problem. I do strongly suspect that it's specific to my Windows 11 setup, even though I have no clue as to which setting is to blame.

Kristina, I tried your suggestion on switching to using a single monitor.

Now it got interesting.

I unplugged the second monitor's power cable and HDMI cable. I then rebooted and launched Quicken. Voila! The cash balances were back, showing on the Bill and Income reminders bar graph if I hovered my mouse cursor over any day's bar. Since I wanted to go back to a dual-monitor setup, I plugged the monitor cables back in again and Windows recognized the second monitor automatically. I then opened Quicken again and the cash balances were still there. Yay!

To fully test things out, I closed Quicken and rebooted again. Windows came up again with both monitors working.

I opened Quicken—and the cash balances were now gone. Crap.

OK, so it definitely looks like it's something in the dual-monitor setup that is causing the issue, but I don't know why Quicken showed the cash balances with the dual monitors initially before I rebooted that second time.

Kristina, I saw in several threads that other people are having the same issue.

On a thread titled "Mouse Hover on Graphs not working correctly on Multiple Display," Quicken Anja wrote: "This is a known issue that has been escalated, and the original ticket remains open and is actively being worked on. At this time, there is no estimated timeline for a fix." This was posted back on September 23.

Looks like I just have to wait for the fix, if there is one.

Yes, I also thought it was odd that the issue initially looked to be "fixed," but then came back after the Windows reboot.
