Quicken keeps adding Ford stock as a placeholder in a Fidelity Roth account
I recently converted from Windows to Mac. In Windows, I would frequently have a problem where transactions for FSSNX (Fidelity Small Cap Index Fund) were identified as Ford Stock (symbol F) when I downloaded transactions. I usually had to edit the transaction after the fact and change the security to FSSNX.
Now with Mac version of Quicken, Ford stock keeps getting added as a placeholder at the beginning of the register. The equivalent number of Ford shares as what I own of FSSNX are added every time I delete the placeholder and attempt a update.
How do I stop this?

According to a Google search, the CUSIP for FSSNX is 316146182
and the CUSIP for Ford is 345370860, which is probably why you're having problems.

For those who might stumble across this, I want to post what I did to solve the problem. I worked with Quicken support yesterday unsuccessfully. Together we tried creating the account in a new data file and connected it to Fidelity. The transactions came through correctly. We then tried a couple things. First we created a new account in the existing data file, moved all the transactions over, and reconnected to Fidelity. The placeholder transaction kept getting created. We also tried deleting the existing account and recreating it in the existing data file. Again, the placeholder kept getting created. Some how Quicken is confusing Ford with FSSNX. Quicken Support said I had to start all over with a new data file and recreate all my transactions from the beginning of time. 30 years of Quicken down the drain. Yeah…no thank you.
Today, without support's help, I tried this.
1. I created a new "dummy" Ford Stock and that was not tied to any real stock.
2. I found all transactions involving Ford Motor Company stock from the beginning of time in my data file. I edited each transaction one at a time and changed it from Ford Motor Company (symbol F) to this new 'dummy' Ford stock.
3. I deleted the placeholder entry.
4. I deleted the real Ford Motor Company stock from my securities list. I was not able to delete it until every transaction for Ford was edited and replaced with the 'dummy' stock.
The placeholder entry Ford stock is no longer being created in my Fidelity account. Yay me.

What's the CUSIP number associated with both securities?
If both are the same, at the brokerage look up what the CUSIP should be and correct the one with the wrong number.0 -
I don't see where I can find the CUSIP number in Quicken for Mac. In Quicken for Windows, the CUSIP for Ford is 316146182. The CUSIP for Fidelity Small Cap Index Fund (Symbol FSSNX), which Quicken confuses Ford with, is blank.
