Recover Quicken after computer died

Question

I have Quicken 2010.  I don’t use any online banking so it’s adequate for what I need.  My computer died - I have recovered the .QDF file and I also have a backup file.  What is the best way to recover everything when I get my new computer?  I have the original CD so can install that - or should I just download Quicken 2013 ?  If I move to 2013, will my data file convert?  Looking for the easiest way to get my Quicken back working.  With either, can I just copy my data file onto the new computer and open it? Or do I need to restore a backup file?

I would download and install the Quicken 2013 Deluxe from

.  It will have the latest version of it included and it has a reputation as being stable.  It will easily convert your Quicken 2010 data file.

I've never understood the rationale for restoring a backup file when moving to a new computer.  Maybe it has something to do with the data file being linked to the computer and it needs to be relinked to the new computer?  If that's the case it's just a simple click if/when prompted to do so.

Still, if it would make you more comfortable, go ahead and restore a backup file instead of the main data file.

Yes just download the 2013 program.  It will have all the updates and will be available in the future if you get a new computer or want to install it on another computer.  It is the last good stable version before they started requiring an ID to get into your own data.  I'm staying on 2013.
