Units vs. Shares

In my 401K the money is put into a pool where we get units in funds. We are not actually getting full shares and when I put my account into Quicken it automatically updates the pricing to reflect shares and not units. How would you suggest that I track my 401K

Quicken's quote provider only has prices for the publicly traded shares. To prevent the quote provider from downloading these incorrect prices, you should go to Tools > Security List in Quicken and un-check the Download Quotes boxes for the 401(k) securities.

If you can connect to the plan administrator to download transactions, the downloads should also include correct unit prices. To avoid confusion, if the security in Quicken has the ticker symbol for the publicly traded version of the fund, you should also click on the security name to open the Security Detail view. Then click on Edit Details and delete the ticker symbol.

If the administrator does not support transaction downloading, you will have to update the share prices manually, or you may be able to import the price history from the administrator's website. Please post back if you need instructions for these options.
