How to back out and start over with new Quicken desktop

Hi - I just got Quicken Classic for windows. My bank accounts in it are already a bit messed up a bit as the 'webconnect' only lets me get about 90 days worth of transactions. Where downloading the Quicken .qfx files brings down about 24 months worth. I need the older transactions.

Can I just delete the Quicken checking accounts (I have CC accounts that I want to keep - though I could do that again if need be). And then 'add accounts' saying I want to manually download? Once I have those up to date, then go back to the webconnect method?

I have not been easily able to maually add in the downloaded transactions to the current accounts. So rather than continuing to try different things, I am ready to just start over.

Would this work.

The risk in deleting accounts is if any transaction in one of those accounts is a transfer to another account that you're keeping, such as payments from checking to the card. The transaction in the "other/card" account would be deleted also … so you have to watch out for that.

BUT, rather than the Delete/re-start approach, you might look into this FAQ on downloading older transactions.

    I second @NotACPA's suggestion.

If you don't have any linked transactions such as transfers or payments where deleting the transactions won't impact other accounts, then I suppose you could go with the delete route. Make sure to backup first and regularly no matter what.

Let's see if you are using the right terminology also to avoid any misunderstandings since you wrote 'webconnect'. Is your account really connected via the "Web Connect" method or is it "Express Web Connect" (EWC) or "Express Web Connect +" (EWC+)?

Web Connect is the correct connection method to import a .QFX file into Quicken - and if that is what you have, then you should be able to download the QFX file and import it into Quicken. Please see these articles.

@NotACPA @BK Thanks for your help. I had already tried the things from the link givesn, had correct file types, etc. Given your warnings about potentially losing transactions in other accounts, I have just unistalled Q and will reinstall it and start over completely with Web connect
