Quicken Classic Premier for Mac does not do what it promised.

I upgraded from Quicken Classic for Mac because their publicity promised investment analysis features such a calculating IRR and ROI on investments. But it does nothing of the sort, it only list cost and current market value of investments. That information is trivial and easily available on the original Classic for Mac.

When I saw this, I tried to cancel the subscription, but was told that that only after the renewal year was up could I downgrade back to the original Classic. And nowhere can I find a phone number or an email to complain. I am old enough to remember back when (1980's) Quicken reports in Mac could all this and more.

Quicken Mac does have a way to view IRR and ROI but you have to be looking in the right place. Click on the account you want to view, select the Portfolio tab, then on the pulldown next to the date select Performance. Once you're looking at the Performance view you can select columns for IRR and ROI:

Those columns aren't available if the Portfolio tab is set to view Portfolio Value or Realized Gain.

It is true that those views are available in Quicken Classic Deluxe edition. I am struggling with the same issues as the OP, though. I just upgraded to the Premier version from Deluxe, expecting to get more granular reporting from the Investing reports. Instead, those reports are pretty bland and don't show anything more than you can get from your normal Portfolio views in the Register. So I'm looking hard to figure out what value there is in the Premier vs. Deluxe version in terms of Investment support.

@moski For a long time after the 2014 launch of the modern version of Quicken Mac, there was very little difference between Deluxe and Premier: priority queue for telephone support, and free electronic payments. In recent years, the developers have started to add a small number of features which require Premier, in order to create a more meaningful differentiation between Deluxe and Premier. They haven't gone too far down that road yet, but I'd expect to see the feature gap widen in future years as they try to create a case for users spending more for Premier.

Some features now available only in Premier include:

    • Foreign Bank Account Report
    • Investing Reports (Portfolio Value and Cost Basis reports now, more planned) — these will supposedly be offered in Quicken Deluxe in the future to better match Quicken Windows
    • Investing Watchlist
    • Register Balances graph and screen
    • Displaying Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) numerically and as a line on the investment graph when you click and drag between two dates on the graph

There might be something else, but those are the ones I'm aware of. As I said, I expect there to be new features added in the years ahead which will require Premier.

I think it's pretty stupid that Quicken's marketing team doesn't have an accurate and up-to-date comparison chart webpage to show the differences between Mac Deluxe and Mac Premier; such a chart would help drive sales for Premier — which should be their goal — because it would reveal what users are missing out on if they have Deluxe.
