Reports: Selecting Categories
Selecting categories for reports can be quite an arduous task. If the search string is "Insurance:" the first occurance of any category that contains the search string will appear; e.g., Andy:College:Insurance. And In this case the ":" symbol is ignored. From that point you have to scroll forward to find other categories you want included in the report; e.g., AutoInsurance:Mercury, Insurance:Auto, Insurance:HomeOwners, AutoInsurance:Mercury, etc. In too many instances specifying a search string is of little value.
I have a couple of suggestions:
1) Have the search criteria work as it does in Tools → Category List. It returns a collection of results that includes any category that contains the search string (and it recognizes the ":" symbol).
2) Position to the first category that contains the search string (as it currently does) and provide a Next and Previous selector as is found in text editors. (Probably the easiest to implement.)
Either one of those suggestions would be a welcomed addition.
As a bonus, it would be nice to be able to indicate that you want to see the categories that have been selected in an existing report, and have the ability to deselect any number of them.
Thank you.
