Print option for Scaling to 1 page wide not working for account transactions (Q Mac)

Quicken Classic Deluxe (Mac): I do a monthly printout from credit card accounts for items not yet reviewed. Up until November or December, printing from the account view would format very well, scaling to 1 page wide.

Doesn't work any more. There is no Quicken section in the print preview window to allow for this, so the columns are getting wrapped, and using more than what was 1 page. This feature is available under reports(Transactions by account), but I can't properly filter this report on the status of a transaction.

    Hi @MikeDuf,

Thank you for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear you’re having difficulty with the “scale to fit one page wide” option.

I have a few questions that can help us better understand and narrow down the issue:

    • When did you first notice this problem?
    • If you switch to landscape orientation to provide more horizontal space, does that improve the result?
    • Have you tried adjusting the column widths within the report before printing?
    • Have you attempted to manually lower the print scale percentage in the print dialog?
    • Which columns are you including in the report?

I look forward to your response and will be happy to assist further once we have a bit more detail.

Hi Laura, Thanks for reaching out.

I first noticed this in January, when I couldn't get the right format. In the print preview, some of the rows were wrapping to 2 lines. Note that I always use landscape mode for this. Adjusting the column widths was the first thing I tried, but now this no longer made a differrence in the print. Always presented the print with the same width columns to fill the page, even if this caused wrapping, which causes extra pages.

The standard Scaling in the print preview doesn't correct wrapping, just takes the entire page and reduces the overall size.

Columns are Status, Date, Account, Payee, Category,Amount, and Memo/Notes. The status column is changed to Split in the printout. Report is:

    Transaction Detail For: Credit Card

All Dates, All Credit Card Accounts, Any Type, Not Reviewed, All Credit Card Accounts

I tried using the Transaction by Account report, but this would not let me filter on Review status. Note that these reports include the Scaling to 1 page wide option in the print preview.

    Thanks
    Mike

@MikeDuf The scale to 1 page wide setting appears in the Print dialog box of most reports — but not when printing a register, which uses older printing technology. However, printing register transactions offers the Scaling percentage option. There are advantages of both approaches; scale to 1 page wide makes the page fit without trial-and-error, but scaling by percentage offers greater flexibility.

I have a copy of Quicken version 8.4 from December on one of my Macs for testing purposes, and register printing is identical in that version and the current 8.5.1, so there wasn't a recent change. I selected the same transactions in both versions and printed to a PDF; text wrapping was identical. When I reduced to 70% in both versions, I observed the same thing: the page was reduced, so more lines fit on a page, but the columns didn't get any wider.

Weird that this would happen out of the blue. Maybe I need to also look at some Mac settings. In the meantime, I'll probably go back to doing a screen shot of the transactions, and printing that…

    @MikeDuf,

I understand; it can definitely be unexpected when this happens suddenly. Your workaround makes sense in the meantime.

If you discover anything new on your end, please feel free to share. And don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions.
