Merrill Edge duplicate dividends
Since March 2026, duplicated dividend transactions in Merril Edge account appear a day or so apart. Firstly, a 'deposit' transaction on day 1, then a 'dividend' transaction on day 2 for the same amount. Because of this, the 2nd transaction does not match against the first, and so two transactions for the same amount are entered in the register. This results in the cash balance being overstated. I didn't detect this when it first happened and almost ran into a situation where I would have been overdrawn on the account.

Hello @Txpete,
Thank you for letting us know you're seeing this issue. To clarify, are both of these transactions downloading into your account, or is one a reminder/manually entered transaction?
I look forward to your reply!

Merrill has the Quicken protocols and ignores them. I have escalated it there. They download a deposit, then download a dividend a day later. We users clean up ML issue, because its them, not Quicken. Worse, is their dividend reinvestment 'implementation'. They download 3 transactions. Dividend credit. Dividend Credit. Zero basis shares added. Obviously thats a disaster from a tax and basis tracking standpoint. After much escalation, they now download FOUR transactions. deposit. dividend paid. dividend debit, then a Quicken compliant divreinvest a day or two later. ML has escalated. I pulled a bunch of stuff out of divreinvest (which is a cash cow for brokerage firms) until they follow the quicken schema.

I had this happen to me for one dividend (so far) in March in one of my Merrill Lynch accounts. So, for me, it doesn't happen for every dividend transaction. The duplication was a dividend paid on 3/20/2026. Yesterday I noticed that there were two instances of the same dividend in Quicken, one on 3/19/2026 and the other on 3/20/2026. I checked ML's web site and the dividend in their activities list had one transaction with trade and settlement date of 3/20/2026 - but that's what it looked like on 5/3/2026. Since I didn't notice it until yesterday, I don't have any logs that would be of interest either.
To answer @Quicken Kristina question: both were downloaded into the account. Neither was a reminder or a manually entered transaction.
I only mention this in hopes it helps with the investigation.
Thanks
Jim

Thank you for your reply,
Thank you for sharing. If the issue happens again, I recommend contacting Quicken Support directly since they will likely need to review the logs to see how the data is being sent. The Quicken Support phone number can be found through this link here. Phone support is available from 5:00 am PT to 5:00 pm PT, Monday through Friday.
Thank you!
