How do you stop downloading prices for a security no longer being held (bulk)?

I have Quicken Classic Premiere, R66.28, build 27.1.66.28.

Over the years my security list has gotten quite large, many of them no longer being held. I would like to stop downloading info on securities no longer being held. I do not want to go through each security to know if its' being held. The report where you select closed lots, also is not a help, since the report is broken down by account and the security could be open elsewhere. If this is not an option, please, please add it. I've seen a lot of posts about it, and people tell you click here or there, but they are so old, the options are no longer valid.

Go to Tools > Security list, click the Show hidden securities box, and un-check the Watch List box for each security you don't want to follow even if you don't hold any shares. Unfortunately you must do this one security at a time, but it is pretty fast.

Quicken will continue to download quotes for securities you still hold if their Download Quotes box is checked.

Gotcha, so you don't have to uncheck download quotes, just the watch list and it won't download the prices anymore. Correct? I wish that was a little more apparent, not sure how any of these ended up on the watch list, I've never set that for any stock. Thanks.

For a long time, the Download Quotes and Watch list boxes were both checked by default whenever you added a new security, causing bloat in the Security List. Now you must check the Watch List box if you want quotes to be downloaded even if you do not hold any shares.

For the technically inclined, the logic for downloading quotes is

Download quotes IF ( Download quotes checked AND (Watch list checked OR ( shares currently held <> 0 ) )
