Account Balances All Wrong

I updated my accounts today and at least two accounts with different institutions are showing wrong balances, in one case by thousands of dollars.

For account A, I have $X,000 online. In Quicken I have $X,000-3000 and only one uncleared transaction. Essentially my Quicken account does not reflect reality.

For account B, it is showing I am overdrawn by $100s of dollars but I am not.

Just renewed and starting to regret it. Is there anyway to get things back on track?

Have you recently deactivated and reactivated those accounts? OR, perhaps, Reset them?

A long standing, and not fully understood, bug in Q will sometimes cause the Opening Balance transaction in such accounts to have its amount changed … which will result in what you're seeing.

The only immediate fix is to either plow back thru old statements to determine what the amount should be, OR restore to another name (so as to not overwrite the current file) backups until you can determine what that OB amount should be, and then correct it in your "production" file.

As a preventative, it's also suggested that for all accounts into which you download, record the correct OB amount in the Memo field of that transaction … so that if this happens again you can quickly determine if the amount has been changed and what it should be.
