I have 4 loans, 2 auto and 2 home loans. Why are the auto loans showing a negative balance, which I expect, and the home loans showing a positive balance, which is incorrect, but the amount is correct?

FWIW, previous s/w versions did not display this issue

When did you first notice this issue?
Did the problem start immediately after the program updated?
Did you confirm that you're looking at loan accounts for the homes, and not asset accounts?

First noticed it just a few days ago.

At first, only one of the home loans was showing a "positive balance". I tried to set up a new loan account in an attempt to troubleshoot the problem and needed to "reset" the cloud account. After doing that, and updating accounts, the other loan account now reflected a "positive balance".

All 4 loan accounts are setup as "liability" accounts.

Another thing to point out.

The mobile app shows these loans as a negative balance, which I expect, and alignes with the other loans.

The Mac App shows them as positive, not desirable. Why the inconsistency?

Thank you for providing additional information.

The fact that the mobile app and desktop versions are showing different information could indicate that you are looking at two different sets of data. Let's check this by going to Quicken>Settings>Connected Services from within the desktop version.

Look at the Nickname listed there. Then you can open the mobile app and compare to see if you see the same name listed there. To do this, open the mobile app and sign in. The image below is from an iPhone; if you are using an Android device, things may look slightly different.

As you can see, the name is listed at the top. Additionally, if you click on the hamburger menu, the name is listed again there, near the bottom.

If the names don't match, you can switch to the correct dataset in the mobile app from here. If the mobile has the data you want to see, it may make more sense to go back to that file on the desktop. This could be as simple as going to File>Open Recent and selecting the second file listed.

Let us know what you find after verifying you are looking at the same data in both places, and we can go from there!

Checked this out and both desktop and mobile version are using the same cloud data file.

Should point out that reconciling these accounts isn't working as expected. First reconcile window shows "negative" online balance, then Next window show "positive" online balance, so the difference is 2X actual.

Just did an account update, and noticed that the Quicken online balance for "Adams QL 8181" is incorrect. It is showing a online bal of -321,195.24, actual is -305,329.49. This actual is from the FI, and it shows up in the reconcilation history, see below.

Any suggestions?

If you haven't done so already, please restore a backup from before the issue began and verify if that corrects the issues. You can do that by following these steps from our article on backing up and restoring Quicken:

Restore Quicken data

In Quicken, select File > View/Restore Backups...
Browse your computer or external media to find the backup file you want to restore. The Quicken backup file has the extension .quicken2017backup or .quickenbackup.
Select the file to restore.
Click Choose.

Restore an automatic backup

Quicken creates a copy of your data every time you close the program and stores five of these copies in a BACKUP folder. If the backup file you've created becomes damaged, you may be able to restore an automatic backup and save yourself the need to re-enter data.

First, check to see if automatic backups are turned on (this is on by default)

In Quicken, select Quicken > Settings.
Go to the Backup tab.
1. Under that option, there is a Backup Folder button that links directly to your BACKUP folder - a good way of finding them fast!
In the Local backups section, make sure there is a check mark next to Automatically create a local backup when quitting Quicken.

Then, restore the automatic backup

In Quicken, select File > View/Restore Backups...
Click Restore a Local Backup.
Select the Automatic Backups folder (Quicken > Backups > Automatic Backups).
Select the file to restore.
Click Choose.

Note: When restoring a backup, please make sure that you are saving the restored file to your local hard drive and ensure that it is not synced with a cloud service, such as iCloud, OneDrive, or Dropbox.

Did restore backup files from May 4 and May 11 to my hard drive, changed file name for logistics and tracking.

In each case, when opening either file, the spinning wheel had a note "updating the database", not sure that was good, since after completing the loan balances in question were exactly like those in my active file.

Is there any harm in;

resetting or removing the Q Cloud account
seeing if others on your team have seen similar problems

Note: At times Quicken prompts me for acess to my icloud files, which I have not approved, what is a good practice?

Resetting the Quicken Cloud account shouldn't cause any harm, as long as you sync everything to your file first (anything that isn't synced to your file would be lost, since a reset deletes everything in the cloud, then re-uploads the data from your file). Removing the Quicken Cloud account shouldn't cause harm either, provided everything is synced to your file first.

I did consult with the rest of my team. They could not replicate the issue, and when I asked, they had not seen other reports of this behavior.

Quicken shouldn't need access to your iCloud files unless you selected a synced file location to save manual or automatic backups, or are trying to restore a backup from a location that's synced with iCloud. It's a good practice to keep recent backups synced to a cloud service, like iCloud, OneDrive, or Dropbox, since it gives you a way to recover a recent copy of your data if something happens to the computer where your file is stored. You don't have to share access with Quicken to do that. If you prefer, you can manually move recent backups to a synced location.
