QXF Account Reconciliation Mystery
A few weeks ago, to fix brokerage account issues, I exported all my accounts from my original data file using QXF (not QFX) into a new empty Quicken data file. All went smoothly. When I received my April statements, I started reconciling the accounts. I had to correct a few transactions but didn't have any problems except with one Schwab account.
Starting Reconciliation, the opening balance was off by thousands of dollars. The transaction list had a lot of unreconciled transactions from prior years. The screen shot is after reconciliation. Those above the red lines were initially unchecked.
I used File > Print Account to print the register and create a CSV file for both the original and new data files so I could compare transactions and running balances. They are shown sorted chronologically in the left and center panels.
You will see the August and part of September 2009 transactions missing in the new data file. Year-end balances (2009 - 2024) in each account matched, however. I reported these issues to support. They had no practical solution, so they issued ticket 12404553.
One at a time, I found each unreconciled transaction from prior years in the new data file were reconciled in the original, so check marked them in the reconciliation window. I check the April transactions. When I finished, all transactions were checked. To my amazement, the account reconciled and the difference was zero.
Concerned with the missing 2009 transactions, I exported the register again. It is shown as the right panel. If you compare it to the left panel, you will see the missing transactions appeared.
- Where were the missing 2009 transactions that reappeared after reconciliation?
- Why was the prior reconciliation amount thousands of dollars off?
- Why were so many previously reconciled transactions unreconciled?

No one is going to be able to help with this short of a Quicken developer taking the data and going through the conversion process and finding the problems, which frankly believe is unlikely to happen.
The reason? The whole process is "black box" to anyone other than the developers. We know nothing about the process.
