Getting the Most Out of AI Suggested Answers in Our Community
We know that when you have a question, you want an answer quickly. While our community thrives on real member engagement and human connection, we also recognize that sometimes questions don't get a response as fast as you need one. That's where the AI Suggested Answers feature comes in.
What is it?
Our community will be using Higher Logic Vanilla's built-in AI assistant. This is just another tool, not a replacement for member answers--similar to an advanced search. This can be a helpful resource that can step in when your question hasn't yet received a human response. It's designed to provide near real-time assistance by surfacing relevant information from sources like community posts and our knowledge base.
A few things to keep in mind: this feature only works with questions (not other discussion types), and it will only suggest answers when no human has responded yet. It also may not be available in every category. Additionally, the answer provided by the AI assistant will only be public if you accept the answer given.
How does it work?
Once you post a question, the AI assistant scans available content sources for relevant information. If it finds a match, it will offer up to 3 suggested answers (example below) after a short delay (typically within a few minutes). These suggestions appear in their own dedicated section and are clearly labeled as AI-generated so you know what's coming from community members versus the AI.
From there, you have a few options:
- Accept Answer if the suggestion resolves your question
- Dismiss a suggestion (click the X) if it's not helpful — the AI may offer additional suggestions to replace it
- Wait it out if you'd prefer to see whether a community member weighs in with a better answer.
Is it right for you?
This feature is opt-in and entirely within your control. To manage your preference, go to Profile > Account & Privacy Settings and scroll to the Community Preferences section at the bottom of the page. There, you can check or uncheck the AI Answers on my Q&A Posts box to turn it on or off at any time.
Our goal is always to make sure you get the help you need — whether that comes from a fellow community member or an AI assist along the way.
