Recently dividends from a Fid MM Acct switched from being cash deposits to
re-investments. When trying to correct this I cannot make an entry into the brokeage account without a cancelling entry being automatically entered.
This is not responsive to my problem. Why did the dividends from Fid MM switch from being deposited in cash and suddenly being treated as reinvestment? Also, why does making a mechanical entry in the brokerage account, as I have done before, cause a cancelling entry to be made?
For the brokerage account, have you turned on the "Show Cash in a checking account" feature? Or, turned it off?
And, for those Divs that you initially mention, in which account are they showing? The brokerage account, or a checking-type account?
BTW, I've got multiple accounts with Fidelity Investments, and I'm not seeing what you're reporting.
Thanks for responding. I do have the Show cash… feature turned on. Up until November of last year the Divs showed up as DivX in the brokerage account and as a deposit in the cash account. Then they switched to Div and showed up as a balance in Fid Gov MM. It was the same in both of our Fidelity brokerage accounts.
@rhb2 There are a couple of "Fidelity Government" MMFs. What's the symbol of your fund?
And, I may have seen something similar at EOM April, but there's so much going on in my life right now, that I'm not sure. Brain fart.
Also, double check that "show cash" is still turned on. Sometimes, with program updates, settings inadvertently get turned off.
The problem I have is that after downloading transactions from Fidelity on random days it will suddenly just start giving me one transaction for the net sum difference processed rather than details for each component that made up the net sum. It has become easier to manage the fidelity account manually than try to figure out what it is doing with one step update. If it makes any difference the account is a living trust that we pay the majority of our bills out of.
@RichardSchreyer I'm also a client of Fidelity Investments (is that who you're talking about, or Fidelity NetBenefits?) and I'm not seeing what you're reporting.
SO, the next time that this happens can you report back with some graphics (JPG or GIF formats, please) that are redacted to show the issue but not any personal info … in order to help us to understand your issue?
Also, at both Q and Fidelity, what type of account are you talking about? I'm a client of Fidelity's "Private Client Group" so I'm familiar with almost all of their offerings.
Thanks again. Fid Gov MM is actually SPAXX in all of my cash accounts linked to brokerage accounts. Actually there are three of these and in all three the dividends from Fid Gov MM stopped going to cash and were reinvested in FId Gov MM at the same date. The "Show cash … option is turned on.
I think the problem traces back to when I changed all of my holdings from reinvest to don't reinvest. I mistakenly included the Fid Gov MM account in this. That changed the nature of all dividends from Fid Gov MM and also changed how buy and sell transactions are being recorded. Problem is I don't know how to undo this.
This would seem to be the opposite of what you wrote on May 16 (about5 posts up). Please clarify.
I think when I changed Fid Gov MM from don't reinvest to reinvest it stopped treating it like a cash account and that caused the problems. I have now changed it back to don't reinvest and am hoping that at the end of the month it will start treating it like a cash (checking) acct again and I can make correcting entries.
