Add Father's Stock But Keep Separate from Net Worth...

Question

Twenty-five years ago, I convinced my Dad to invest in AAPL. He has (obviously) done very well with his investment. I would like to add the stocks he owns to Quicken so I can see their value, but I do not own these stocks and want to keep them separate from my net worth. I will inherit these someday, I suppose, but it is just fun to see how much it is worth.  How can I do this?

You can absolutely keep the account separate, as previously mentioned, by following the steps below:

Separate an account

* In Quicken, choose Accounts > Hide and Show Accounts.
* For the account, you'd like to separate, choose the Keep Separate checkbox.
* Click OK.* Quicken will separate and move it to the Separate Accounts section at the bottom of the Account Sidebar below net worth. To restore a Separate account to the normal Account Sidebar location, deselect the Keep Separate checkbox.

If you prefer to fully isolate the data, you can also create a new Quicken data file. Here’s a helpful support article with step-by-step instructions:

Yes, you can have Separate accounts in Quicken Mac, IMO that would be the best way to handle this. But an entirely separate file would also work.

I’m not sure if QMac has the keep account separate feature. An alternative would be to create a new file and track your dad’s Apple stock in the new file.
