Bank data failed to download and now accounts are corrupted - where do I start?

I was out of the country for 3 months and when I returned I opened Quicken Premier and tried to update my financial data. I got a message that Bank of America required a re-authorization. I did so and found that three NEW BoA accounts were created with zero data except for a Starting Balance.

I repeated the process and got the same re-authorize message but could not update any accounts from BoA or other institutions. I de-activated the original BoA accounts and was able to update the other accounts but ONLY the last 3 weeks of data - there was no information for the previous 2 1/2 months.

Long story short, every account is now corrupted and totally worthless. I had 20+ years of data that cannot be used. I restored the last back-up from 3 months ago and the same story - now corrupted and unusable. I need serious help!

To make sure I understand the situation correctly and can provide the most relevant guidance, could you please clarify the following:

Did you reconnect the original accounts, or were new accounts created after restoring the backup file?
Are the last three months of transactions still available when you log in to the Bank of America website?
If you open the original Bank of America account registers in Quicken, do they still contain the historical transactions?

THANKS for the quick reply.

The original 3 BoA accounts could not be relinked - tried about 6 times and always get the same error you "must re-authorize data sharing." When I did re-authorize, three new accounts were created in Quicken with a new "Opening Balance" and only transactions from the last 3 weeks. I tried de-activating the new accounts and updating the original accounts and got the same re-authorize message.
The BoA statements are available as PDFs only but I could create comma-delimited spread sheets. I can't find a way to import Excel into Quicken.
Yes - at least they did. I tried to copy these transactions to the new linked BoA accounts and that is when things went south and all of the Quicken accounts became corrupted. (It was nice to see a new net worth of $52M, but only in my dreams…)

Thank you for providing more details. This is very helpful.

To resolve this, please first restore a backup from before the accounts were duplicated. This ensures we are working with the original account structure.

After restoring the backup:

1. Deactivate the affected accounts

Select the Tools menu and select Account List....
If present, select the Show Hidden Accounts checkbox at the bottom of the Account List
In the Account List, select the account you want to deactivate, and then click Edit.
In the Account Details window, click the Online Services tab.
Click Deactivate next to the service you want to disable.
Click Yes to the message confirming if you want to disable this service.
Repeat these steps for each affected account.
Log in to your bank’s website and revoke Quicken’s third-party access (if applicable).

2. Reactivate and relink the accounts

Go to Tools> Add account
Select the bank for the deactivated account(s). If prompted, select the connection method.
Enter your credentials and click Connect.
When the list of located accounts appears, choose LINK next to each account you want to reactivate (do not choose Add, as that would create duplicates).
Click Next then Done on the last prompt.

Once completed, your accounts should reconnect and download the available transactions.

Note: If your bank provides only a limited transaction history (e.g., the last 3 weeks), Quicken can only download what is available from the bank.

Again - thanks so much.

These are the exact steps I followed 3 times and twice got a new BoA checking & savings accounts with a starting balance (approximately) equal to what the old existing accounts should have but zero transactions. The third time I got the same but with the most recents 3 weeks of transactions.

Now, a day later, I did exactly the same and this time the accounts contain the most recent two years of data??? Cyber-spooks? That is all good because I can copy the 30 years of old transactions to the newly created BoA accounts.

Now the really bad news. The first re-sets also corrupted three other (non-BoA) investment accounts - I don't even see how this is possible. They show the correct last 3 weeks transactions but have account balances off by millions (!!!) of dollars. It seems impossible to find where the changes occurred in the thousands of transactions over 20 years.

Any ideas about how to selectively restore these 3 investment accounts without messing up what is now functional?

Thank you - I had great tech support and responded within 2 minutes. Problems are solved and now I just need to re-enter manually 2 years of categories and tags for the BoA accounts.
