Mac 9.0.3 | Fidelity/NetBenefits 401(k)
I disconnected my Fidelity 401(k) in September 2025 due to Express Web Connect migration issues and reconnected yesterday (5/30/26). After significant cleanup I've gotten all securities to match Fidelity, but I'm left with a phantom negative cash balance of -$76,551.62 that I can't resolve.
Background: When I reconnected, Quicken downloaded placeholder transactions for three funds I no longer own (FDIKX, FCNKX, NRGSX) with large dollar amounts attached ($106K, $38K, $8K respectively). I deleted those placeholder transactions, which zeroed out the phantom securities in the portfolio but left a negative cash balance.
What I've tried:
- Entered a manual Payment/Deposit for $76,551.62 — it didn’t effect portfolio cash balance.
- I did a Reconcile Account and it added an $11,064.76 adjustment transaction. It didn't change the portfolio cash balance so I deleted it. The Reconcile window shows Online Balance $0.00 (correct — no real cash in a 401k) but Quicken Balance -$11,064.76, which differs from the portfolio's -$76,551.62 — I don't understand this discrepancy
- I noticed there are 151 Payment/Deposit "Adjustment" transactions in the register, all with an Entered date of 9/27/25 (when EWC+ first connected). They have no detail other than "Adjustment" in the memo. Transaction dates range from 8/27/20 to 9/18/25. I don’t know if those are related to the Cash Balance issue, but they seem fishy. 150 of these are positive, one is a large negative (-$171,168.38) dated 11/11/22 which was about the time I migrated to Fidelity – it may be legit. The net of all 151 adjustments is approximately +$12,881.15, which doesn't directly explain the -$76,551.62 portfolio cash balance — there may be things I'm not seeing.
Current state:
All 6 securities match Fidelity exactly in shares and they match market value within $1.00.
I still have five placeholder transactions in the register: FID US BOND IDX, PIM TOTAL RT INST, SP EXT MKT IDX CL E, and DFA US TARGET VALUE
Questions related to zeroing the cash balance:
- Why does the Reconcile window show a different cash figure (-$11,064.76) than the Portfolio view (-$76,551.62)?
- Might deleting the 151 Payment/Deposit Adjustment transactions created by EWC+ fix the cash balance? Is it safe to delete these?
- Are the five placeholder transactions contributing to the cash balance, and should I delete them?
Any help appreciated. I've spent over a day cleaning up this EWC+ mess. I disconnected the account because I knew it looked hard, and being connected just seemed to make it worse. Finally decided to have Claude AI help me through fixing it. It was very time-consuming, but I learned more about Quicken (and Claude). And this is the last remaining issue!
This is my first post to this forum. Thanks,
