On Line Payments Driving me nuts---I have Classic Quicken.

Here is my cycle for the month. I have a WordPerfect Table that I call GorBud into which I put all my income and expenses. GorBud tells me whether I should be happy or not. Normally "Not" But I work the problem and then I am less unhappy to even being happy.

I now have Balance in GorBud. I balance my Bank's Checking Account with Quicken and then the three balances are the same: GorBud, Quicken, and Bank's Checking Account.

I then look at say five bills (Electricity, Nat Gas, Auto Insurance, etc.) and I go on-line and pay them. All say thanks, but ONLY one or two put through a quick Debit to my Checking account. When they do I make a corresponding Quicken EFT transaction, and also make Balance changes to GorBud.

This is essentially the same info in three places… NOT a good solution. Further, some of the "paid bills don't put through a Checking Account Debit for a week or more. That makes the three balances "out of wack" with each other. Again, NOT GOOD.

I think what would HELP is if I could put "GorBud" entirely into Quicken. It would be "QuickenGorBud." As I pay a bill On-line I would immediately make a "QuickenGorBud" EFT transaction. I would then IGNORE my bank's Online Balance until the end of the actual month which, by then has all of the month's transactions processed. What is then in "QuickentGorBud" would tell me just where I am on my Monthly Budgeting.

OK, guys, how can I put a GorBud into Quickent to make a QuickenGorBud?

Do you only have your checking account set up in Quicken? You can do all that you are talking about in Quicken, including setting up a budget which will compare your income and expenses by category so you can decide if you are "happy" or not.

As for the delay of when transactions happen. I do all regular monthly charges as Reminder transactions. This way, even before the actual transaction happens I know what my expected expenses are. Of course, this are not all static amounts so once I get a bill I update the reminder to reflect the correct amount for the month. Quicken can then download the actual transactions when they happen and they will "match" with the reminder transaction.

So bottom line is, I believe Quicken can do what you need. It may not be exactly like "GorBud" but I think it should work for you.

I'm guessing you are new to Quicken since this is your first post here.

First question is what flavor of Quicken do you have (I.e. Starter, Deluxe, Premier etc.)?

Next is what do you have set up in Quicken? You only reference a checking account. Do you have other accounts in Quicken? Do you it/have them set up to download?

Have you tried to create a budget in Quicken?
