.qdf files and vault

I don't understand the relationship of the vault name and data name as it pertains to different quicken QDF databases on the same desktop PC?

Windows 10 Desktop.

I keep track of my own investments and my wife's investments at the same bank.

This makes two separate .QDF databases with two separate names.

I go to the File Manager on the desktop and doubleclick on the .QDF for my data and it opens properly using the stored vault. When I click the .QDF for my wife's data it opens with her data, but it when I enter the vault password that I use on my data file, it doesn't work on her data.

Is there a different vault for each .QDF datafile?

Yes, each Quicken data file (.QDF) can have its own Password Vault.

When you open your data file, Quicken loads the vault associated with that file, and your vault password works as expected. When you open your wife's data file, Quicken attempts to access the vault associated with that file. If a vault exists and was created with a different password, your vault password will not work.

To reset the Password Vault, I suggest following the steps outlined in our support article:

1. Go to Tools > Password Vault > Reset Vault.
2. Enter a new Vault Password.
3. Re-enter the password to confirm it.
4. Click OK.
