Moving data from Mac Q 2002 to Mac Q 2006

Question

I hope you can answer a simple question that I am having a lot of trouble with but I shouldn't be.

I moved my files from an old iMac with quicken 2002 to a 2005 Mac with Quicken 2006 or possibly 2007. It transferred and I see all the files, accounts and transactions and prices in the ledgers but I cannot for the life of me see the prices  in the Details section under Investing in the Security Detail window-the prices tab is empty whereas the transactions tab gives the priced and shares and amount transacted. And therefore all my investments are zero value in the accounts folder and the Market Value at the bottom of each ledger.

I can see all the old ones from previous transfers and backups from many years ago but not the latest ones  I just transferred that also contained  the last few years. ( I have not been transferring to the newer computer for years as I was just backing it up on a flash drive).

What am I doing wrong? And where are the quotes and the quicken essentials folder supposed to be placed? Should they be together-the quotes in the essentials folder in the Quicken applications folder as they are in the original folder in the 2002 version or separate- the Quotes outside the quicken essentials folder but in the application folder or both either together or separate in the quicken folder in the  documents folder?   I tried all the places like my library/application support/quicken/ as well as the ones I just mentioned but it's no go no matter what I do.

I am thinking of deleting everything and then transferring it over again but see no reason to as the quotes folder seems to be the only problem. And this seemed to work in the past with no problems. I just can't remember where I placed them before.

Any suggestions? Please help as I am going crazy.

You have explained what I was looking for-that it's all wrapped up in the same folder and that it doesn't matter where you place that folder.

My pull down menu confirms that it is Quicken for Mac 2006 15.0.6 - R7

I did fix my problem by using Command-Option-U ( found the answer in my 98 version Quicken book that came with the Quicken Program)    that updated the prices in the Portfolio window and now the Accounts folder shows the amount from each mutual fund and the total at the bottom instead of 0 for each fund. That was the problem I had-no prices. I thought you had to put the Quotes in a particular folder with the newer versions of QM in order to see the prices but you only had to update the prices in Portfolio.

Especially since I read online ( and maybe also in Quicken online) that you had to place it in your    ~Library/Application Support/Quicken/ Essentials/Quotes or Essentials and Quotes separately in the Quicken folder. No matter what I tried I couldn't get the prices to show up in the Details button in the Prices flap next to the Transactions flap (which had the prices and the shares correctly) under Investing until I updated in Portfolio.

I also do not see the extensions ".app" or the ".qdfm" as I probably turned that option off. How would you turn it back on to show in order to find things easier when you need to in the future?

Sorry for the confusion but the "Quicken Essentials" is a folder that contains the Quotes, the Backup, and stores a few other apps in the Quicken Application folder that contains the Quicken Application itself in QM2002.  Other versions later just have an "Essentials" folder but still contain the Backup folder and other things and maybe the quotes folder.

I know there was a Quicken Essentials App from Quicken as I was researching my questions but I never had that program.

I know I have QM2006 on my newer old computer  (2005 laptop) but I also have a lot of saved help articles for QM 2007 from long ago so I thought I may have upgraded somewhere but it says Quicken 2006 on the Application. Possibly on my 2011 laptop.

By the way- I did fix my the problem by using Command-Option-U that updated the prices and now my Accounts folder shows the totals from each mutual fund and the total. I'm sorry that I just don't have enough recollection of file and folder names and locations going back to Quicken Mac 2002 and MacOS 9.

I'm really puzzled by your description of a "Quicken Essentials" folder, because that is the name of the rewritten Quicken which came out in 2010. Quicken Essentials is basically the 1.0 version of the modern Quicken Mac software. (I started typing this and now see that @John_in_NC posted something similar before I could finish my post.)

I do have an older Mac with macOS Mojave, the last macOS which could run Quicken 2007. The Quicken 2007 application on that computer is a single file, not a folder, called "Quicken 2007.app", which lives in the Applications folder. The data file used with Quicken 2007 can have any file name, ends with the extension ".qdfm", and can be located anywhere you want on your Mac.  There is no folder, or anything called "Quicken Essentials". There is no separate file which holds the quotes.

The Quicken 2007 data file is a Mac "package" file, which means it is a wrapper around a number of files and folders which appears as a single file. If one drills down inside the data file package, there is a file called "Quotes", but this is not something users would access separately.

Perhaps @smayer97, our resident Quicken 2007 expert here, can shed some light on this. But we need to get more information about what you are actually running. If you launch the Quicken program, what it the title of the first menu? Is it Quicken Essentials? Quicken 2007? Something else? And if you pull down that menu to "About Quicken", please report what the screen shows — particularly the name of the software and the version number. For instance, here's the screen from Quicken 2007"
