Bank of America no longer supports QFX downloads; limits online transactions

Oh yay. Quicken just got even less useful for me. I have a BoA VISA. And because I hadn't downloaded transactions since late February (family issues), I did a one-step update. Woops. BoA only looks back 3 months. OK, I figured I'd just download QFX from BoA for the missing dates. Woops. BofA only supports CSV downloads now and it will only do it by statement month. Now I have a royal mess on my hands. Apparently, I have to edit the CSV to match Quicken's format. And I have to back enter each month separately.

ON TOP OF THIS, Quicken, of course, is now bugging me to renew my subscription. Yet, as a user of Quicken since DOS days, I don't get ANY discount. Grrr. Way to make a long time user feel wanted. I'm almost to the point of saying why bother keeping track of things and just have my CPA do it.

It seems your problems rest entirely with BoA. At what point did Quicken not do what it was supposed to do?

If a major bank has eliminated support for Quicken other than via web connect and it only looks back 3 months (new users wouldn't get history either), I call that a problem on both sides. It's loss of functionality. Doesn't matter who initiates it.

There are many FI's that don't offer or discontinued QFX download. That is their decision. So I too echo the prior comment that this is not Quicken's doing or lack of.

That being said, Quicken has done something about this and they implemented the csv import feature (File > Import > Banking Transactions). This feature allow you to take FI's Excel/csv file, reformat it to what Quicken recognizes, in order to download those older transactions. Many users including myself have successfully done exactly that. I encourage you to try it if those older transactions are important to you.

Time Saving TIP: When trying to reformat the Excel/csv file to Quicken's requirement, create a simple two line test file first and import it - to see if you encounter any errors and what needs to be modified toward a successful import.
