How do I add the cost bases for shares in quicken, say I receved 250 shares 10 years ago from my grandfathers estate, then I bought 250 shares at $15.00 a share 2 years ago, how do I make the entry in quicken
Thanks
Seattle Mike
It should be relatively easy: for the shares given to you 10 years ago, you likely used (or need to) an Add Shares transaction for the 250 shares on that date. You can enter the cost there.
You would use a Buy Shares transaction for the shares you purchased for $15 two years ago. That will set the cost for that transaction.
You didn't mention any dividends, etc that occurred in that time frame, but transx like that should be accounted for. Also, make sure the Security is setup (under the Window menu) to download price histories.
