Exxonmobil Holdings

Question

why is quicken mac downloading from vanguard exxonmobil with an incorrect stock ticker symbol?  For the past several weeks, each time I sync Quicken Mac w/ Vanguard, it downloads a holding for my Exxonmobil stock with the name "Exxon Mobil Corp" and the ticker "30233Q108" rather than ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation with the ticker "XOM."  This is creating inaccurate placeholder transactions for "Exxon Mobil Corp" under ticker "30233Q108" and not reconciling my ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation with the ticker XOM.  Please help.

Great question…why are they not fixing problems? I have a similar problem but it's with different tickers. I have reported the problems and every update I check to see if it's been fixed. Nope. In my case I go in and delete the price history update. It happens frequently to me and so I added a shortcut to the app bar for security list so I can jump straight to the right window. They seem to want to add features and not fix problems.  It's the third from the right in this picture, and called "Security List." Hope you find this helpful while you're cussing Quicken like I do.

Have QMac.  All was working fine for years regarding my Exxon holdings until the Exxon name change, then quicken started downloading a "placeholder" for the Exxon shares I owned with the 30233Q108.  Going back and rebuilding all my exxon holdings will be an exhausting exercise given multiple purchases and sales over the years, dividend reinvestments, etc.  there must be a better way.  Why isn't quicken fixing this?

To begin with, please clarify which Quicken Classic product you have installed and are running.  Your Community profile shows you are running Quicken Windows but you posted in a Quicken Mac category.  The products are different with different softwares so that can influence additional troubleshooting suggestions if the following does not resolve the issue for you.

30233Q108 is the CUSIP ID for XOM.

"Exxon Mobil Corp" is the correct legal name for XOM.

"Exxonmobil" is their trademarked brand name and does not have a ticker nor a CUSIP ID.

Did you manually set up the security for Exxonmobil and XOM?  If so, and if during that setup process that security was not properly matched to the actual online security ("Exxon Mobil Corp" and 30233Q108), then it would appear that what is being downloaded by Vanguard might be correct and the XOM security you have in QMac might be incorrect which could mean that Quicken is not recognizing your Exxonmobil XOM security as being a valid security.

What you might want to try doing:

* Back up your file.
* Move your transactions history from your ExxonMobil security to the Exxon Mobil Corp security.
* Delete the Exxonmobil security.
* After you have deleted the Exxonmobil security:  Change the ticker for Exxon Mobil Corp from 30233Q108 to XOM.

If I am correct, then your future downloads of XOM from Vanguard will correctly download against Exxon Mobile Corp and the placeholder issue should go away.

If it doesn't resolve the issue, you can always restore your file and everything will be as it was before you made these changes.
