I am at wit's end with this as Quicken support will not escalate—they just want to keep fixing it temporarily and get rid of me.
I have been using Quicken for over 3 decades. The feature to have my Fidelity cash securities treated as cash I thought was a godsend because Quicken never reconciled properly and would generate the placeholder transactions all the time.
The feature to have Quicken treat the securities like cash works for a while, but then if I move my Quicken data file to my laptop to use it there for a while, or when I move it back to my desktop, then it stops working and it starts generating placeholder transactions until I go back to the account settings, and if it says to use the security value as the cash balance, then I change to using the account balance or visa versa, and it is fixed again until a while later.
I know back in the '90s that Quicken used to write directly to the HDD and bypass caching and did other tricks, so not sure if file labels or other issues are the root cause of this, but the file copy when I move to my laptop or visa versa works fine. There are no issues with my data, Quicken never complains, it is just this one feature that breaks.
I got on the phone and did the screen share with Quicken a few times and they always have me fix/validate the file, but that does not last. I think it is just a weakness in the file and how it uses it but Support will never escalate the issue to the developers. Nobody at Quicken wants to get this issue beyond front-line support.
Has anybody else noticed this and have any other fix that is more permanent? I have a dozen or so accounts that this happens to, so having the feature that they said would address this issue actually work permanently would be awesome.
