Approving software updates prior to installation

Question

Previously I was always notified of a Quicken software update and asked to approve installation. I like to backup my files prior to any update. Lately, updates are starting once I open Quicken, with no ability to delay it. I've searched for a Preference to require approval. Is there one?

Ditto on using the UAC. I NEVER use Quicken's update procedure and fully agree with @Boatnmaniac 's comment above, and specially the following statement to use the Manual Patch Update instead - IMO this is one of those undocumented best practices:

….and I usually manually download and install the Manual Patch Update File instead of allowing Quicken to update the software for m.  IMO, there are fewer issues encountered with updating the version when I use the Manual Patch Update File.

I've had my UAC set like this for at least the last 4-5 yrs.  It does a great job of flagging when Quicken tries to update my software and when I elect to not allow it to do that it 100% of the time effectively blocks the update.  Now I am in control of when my Quicken Classic software gets updated….and I usually manually download and install the Manual Patch Update File instead of allowing Quicken to update the software for m.  IMO, there are fewer issues encountered with updating the version when I use the Manual Patch Update File.

What I also like about this UAC Setting is ithat it will not flag me for any software that I have set to automatically update, including Windows and Google.
