One Step Updates are FAILING

My one-step updates are failing for Chase and Citi and have been all weekend- I get the message that the FI is blocking transactions and to come back later. It's now past the later, and they are still not working. This started after the last Quicken update. The last update also wipes out manually entered transactions that are then received on the update!!

I'm glad to hear that One Step Update is working again as expected. I checked my internal tools, and both Citibank and Chase are currently showing the Status: OK.

Regarding the missing manually entered transactions, I recommend following the steps outlined in our support article on missing transactions.

To check for filters:

Confirm that the Sort Order in your account register is set to Date by clicking the Date column header.
If the Reset button is visible at the top of the register, click it. This will clear any filters that may be applied and ensure that the register is displaying all transactions.

There is no "Reset" button

I have turned off ALL the Quicken automation! See the post about the Memo field being overwritten on Update.

Please note that the "Reset" button is only available when a Filter is active.

To avoid confusion, the instructions should probably read:

"2. If the Reset button at the top of the register is showing, click it to clear any filters …"

Thanks for your reply and for sharing those screenshots!

Those settings should help going forward, so I recommend monitoring future downloads to confirm that the memo field is downloading correctly and that the memos are no longer being removed.

For transactions that were previously downloaded with an incorrect or missing memo, I recommend entering the memo manually. If you have multiple transactions that need the same memo, you can use the Find and Replace tool to update them more efficiently. I suggest following the steps from our support article. Before following these steps, I recommend creating a backup of your Quicken data file.

To do so:

Go to Edit > Find/Replace.
Search for the payee, word, phrase, or amount you want to find.
Select the transactions you want to update.

Click Replace and select Memo.
Enter the memo you want to use.
Click Replace Selected to apply the changes.

Quicken One-step-Update is ignoring Quicken preferences and continuing to "wipe-out" pre-entered transactions!!! I had 5 transactions entered yesterday and Quicken replaced all the dates with today's date and cleared all the categories to make them blank! I'm positive the preferences say "Dont use the posting date"!

Is this issue happening with reminders?
If so, are the reminders losing their category after they are matched?
If yes, what type of reminders are affected (for example, Bill Reminders, Income Reminders, Online Bills, or another type)?
What is the frequency of those reminders (weekly, monthly, every 30 days, etc.)?
Are the reminders set to Auto-enter, or are they set to remind you a certain number of days in advance? If so, how many days?
If possible, could you provide a video recording showing the behavior?

They are not reminders - I am entering the transactions directly into the register for the appropriate account on the day the expense occurs (7/29 for Sam's Club grocery purchases, 7/29 for Sam's Club gas purchases, 7/29 Magic House for Kids Activities…. When I do a One-step update to the account when the account has the transactions as posted vs pending, Quicken changes the transaction date to the current date even though the "use date from financial institution" is not checked, has only been 2-3 days prior to activity and wipes out the category that has been previously assigned.

To clarify, are you typing these transactions into your register before downloading updates from your financial institutions? If you are not typing the information in, then what process are you using to enter them into your register?

I can see that you have automatic entry enabled. Have you tried turning it off and testing if the issue still happens when you're able to review the transactions before they go into your register?

YES - I am entering on the date of occurrence to ensure that the values are reported to the correct month for income/expenses. Quicken just overwrites the date to the date of download even though when I check the activity date on the specific institution it shows both the activity date and posting date and Quicken is changing from the activity to posting date on downloaded transactions.

To clarify, are you typing in the entire entry, or just the date? If you're typing in just the date, how is the rest of the transaction being filled in (memorized transaction, reminder, etc.)?

Thank you for your response. I’d appreciate it if you could provide the following information so we can look into this further:

Where is your Quicken file located?
To check, open Quicken and go to File. At the bottom of the menu, the file with the check mark next to it is the one currently open. Please provide the full file path shown there.

Does this issue occur with all of your Quicken accounts, or only specific accounts/financial institutions (for example, Chase or Citi)?
If only certain accounts are affected, which accounts are impacted?
Have you tried reverting to a previous version of Quicken to see if that makes a difference?
Are all affected accounts using the same connection method (for example, Direct Connect, Express Web Connect, or another connection type)?

To check the connection method:

Open an account.
Click on the Gear icon in the upper right corner.
Click on Edit account details.
Select Online Services.
The connection method is below the Financial Institution.

The location of the Quicken file is on the main local drive, not stored within the Windows "Users" and not connected to any cloud!

Are all affected accounts using the same connection method - all transactions are using Express Web Connect+

At this point, I just screenshot the account registers that will be updated and fix them again when Quicken screws them up!!!

Thank you for the additional information. Since this issue is occurring with all credit card accounts using Express Web Connect+, I recommend testing an older backup to help determine whether the issue is specific to your current file.

Create a current backup of your Quicken file.
Restore a backup from before the issue began, ideally from late June or early July.

Go to File > View/Restore Backups....

Browse the Local and Online Backups tabs to find the backup file you want to restore. The Quicken backup file has the extension .QDF-Backup.
Select the file to restore and click Restore Backup.
Next, you will be given the option to overwrite the file you have open or to create a copy of the backup you're restoring.
- If you Create a copy, you will need to select a location to save the copy to and you will also need to give the copy a unique file name. After naming the file and selecting the location, click Save, then click Yes to open the restored file.
- What does it mean to overwrite a file?: Restoring a backup file replaces your current data with the data stored on the backup. Be aware that you'll lose any changes you made since the backup was created. If you want to preserve the current file, you must rename the current file or the file you are restoring. We recommend to avoid overwriting files.

In the restored file, enter a test transaction with the correct date, payee, category, and amount.
Once the transaction has posted, run One Step Update and check whether Quicken changes the transaction date or removes the category.

Please let me know the results of the backup test, and we can determine the next steps from there.
