Desktop classic - one step update failed. Now I can't add bank / connected account.

Question

Been using Classic deluxe for a bunch of years and this is just the most recent issue.

I have a load of bank and broker accounts.

Just renewed for another year to connect with my brokerage accounts. And I notice this.

I noticed my bank and schwalb weren't updating anymore even though I'm getting the  green message that the update was successful today.

I wound up disconnecting chase online updates. and try to reconnect.  Now can't get it back... I get these error messages.

I installed the app on another PC.  used this file.  Same error.

Created a new file and added chase no problem.  So it's a problem with the data file / quicken?

the problem file has loads of different accounts. I don't want to have to re-setup all the accounts, bring all the older data over.

I did run earlier in the day and again now, the validate and repair database.

Any thoughts?

Adding a new online account IS an "online activity".  And all online activity ends when your subscription ends.

Makes perfect sense to me.

u/markus1957 thanks!   Yeah, i was thinking the same thing - data file issue.

I posted here after posting on reddit.  Turns out it was an issue with my subscription / license!  I had let it lapse a few days AND wound up making a new intuit account because I bought the activation key from Staples.  It may have been a 'new user' subscription.  Or just quicken convoluted processes.  I couldn't find a spot to enter an activation code in quicken / on the quicken website when logged in.  They just wanted to sell me activation code.  I had staples money I wanted to use.

KEY THING I LEARNED - subscription is to connect online to update your accounts, right?  Stop paying each year and you CAN still use your data file / manually enter transactions…. for EXISTING accounts.  You can't ADD accounts to your data file unless you have an active subscription!?

I did not know that!

For you or anyone else that stumbles on this - if you are going to stop renewing your subscrip[tion because you don't need to update data online anymore… .if there's ANY chance you will want to add accounts later, I think you should just add a bunch of accounts before the subscription ends?!

If you can also create a new file and connect to Chase on your original PC, I'd say it is the data file. It wasn't clear if you created the new file on the new or original PC.

You can try a File>Copy using the template option. It will create a record-by-record copy of your old file and disconnect all of your accounts from online services. This new file should not have the issue that is causing the connection problem, but it will have all of your data.

Try connecting Chase in the new file. If it works, connect the rest of your accounts and leave the old file behind.
