I'm using Quicken Classic (Business & Personal) for Windows - Version R68.31 Build 27.1.68.31
I've seen closed discussions trying to solve the problem of correcting share balance and cost basis in a Quicken "Simple" investment portfolio. For me, none seem to work.
I believe I've found a working method.
- In the "Investing Window" click on the security to be corrected. (The Security Detail View window will pop up.
- Select "Security Report" (A security report for the selected security will appear. If blank or incorrect, verify Date Range and "Customize" being sure the proper "Account" is included in the report.
- The "Security Report" should then show all transactions representing the lots for the account selected. You can now double click on any transaction(s) and correct Transaction Date. # Shares, Total cost (cost basis), & date acquired. (NOTE: Price Paid will calculate automatically based on number of shares and total cost and is recommended.)
- For me, correcting the Total cost of transactions, using this method, did not change the currently reconciled account balance, which is good, kind of odd it didn't but so be it. If the balance did change, I'd think the account beginning balance should change to compensate.
If the security report generated shows all the transactions equaling the correct total shares, I'd think you could correct the Total Cost for each where necessary. (Maybe even date acquired) This was not the case for me since I only have one lot for each security, and I was not concerned about the long- or short-term capital gain. My brokerage account handles that detail, thankfully!
Let me know if this worked for you.
