Windows 7 supported

Well, I was talking to my outsourced legal IT esolution team about Quicken and my printer issues as well, but I was not sure, and they were not sure whether Quicken is still supported in Windows 7 or not. My grandpa wanted to use Quicken, but he has a Windows 7 pc.

Unfortunately, no, Windows 7 is no longer supported.

Quicken for Windows Desktop (US & Canada)

Computer: 1 GHz or higher
Operating System:
- Windows 10.
  - Note: Not compatible with Windows 10 in S mode. For more information about S mode, click here.
- Windows 11.
  - Not compatible with Windows 11 in S mode. For more information about S mode, click here.
  - Arm-based Windows 11 is supported through built-in emulation.
Memory: Minimum 1 GB RAM.
Hard Disk Space: Minimum 450 MB free disk space; 1.5 GB if .NET is not installed.
Monitor: 1024x768 or higher screen resolution, 1280x1024 minimum for Large Font settings.
Internet Connection: High-speed internet connection recommended for product download and use of online services.
Online access is required for activation.

Additional software:

Microsoft .NET 4.6 or newer (Quicken installer will install .NET if it's not already installed on the system)

Increasingly I have been seeing posts by users that running Quicken Classic Subscription on Windows 7 can be very problematic. And if problems are encountered Quicken Support might not agree to or might not be able to help troubleshoot and resolve it.

Also, note that since Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7 it means that it is no longer getting security updates from Microsoft. Using Windows 7 for anything involving the Internet is increasingly at risk of being compromised by hackers. So that is something to take into consideration, as well.

One can buy a new lower end Windows 11 laptop system for $200-$500. And higher end used/rebuilt laptops running Windows 11 can be bought for that same price range. IMO, either of those would be a better option than trying to run Quicken Classic Subscription on that Windows 7 system….especially if your grandfather accesses the Internet for anything at all.

However, if he is OK with manually managing his financials (no downloading of any financial data) then @mshiggins' suggestion might be a good way to go with that Windows 7 system.

@Boatnmaniac I think Win 7 has not worked with subscription version for a long long time. I have seen several recent reports that Win 10 users are having issues, but so far it’s just correlation not causation.

Thanks for correcting me. I have not seen any Win 7-related posts for a long time (maybe 1-2 yrs ago?) but at that time I do remember some were saying Subscription was still working for them however most were saying that it no longer was. Good to know that Win 7 is no longer viable for Subscription.
