Why does Quicken use the same yet wrong Payee for multiple charges

Question

Recently, Quicken has listed the same Payee - usually Lowes - for multiple Payees. I have tried to correct this by deleting Lowe's from the memorized payee list to no avail.

Why did this start to happen a month or so ago, and how do I permanently fix this?

Thanks for sharing the issue you have run into with us!

Just to add to what the SuperUsers have already mentioned, my first thought, like @splasher's, was that this is likely being caused by renaming rules. Here is a Support Article that explains how to create and edit renaming rules. This Help Article goes even more in-depth on the topic.

Basically, you just want to look through your renaming rules to see if there are any labeled "Lowe's". You can see these by going to Tools>Renaming Rules.

If you do find some, you can use the red icon on the right to delete them. Alternatively, you can use the pencil icon to edit it to something more appropriate.

@mshiggins has a great point as well that I had not originally thought of. Definitely something to consider!

@DavidClarke you don’t by chance live in a city whose name begins with Low, like Lower Merion, Pennsylvania? The preference to Automatically Apply Quicken’s Suggested Name would likely substitute Lowe’s for any payees with some variation of Low in their name.

This sounds like a Renaming Rule (Tools menu) going astray rather than a Memorized Payee.
