Why does Quicken need to connect to a financial company to import a QFX file?

Question

I frequently encounter this error when trying to import QFX files. I have discovered that I can switch from an Ethernet connection to WiFi and that appears to work. It is crazy that I have to uplug the Ethernet Cable, connect WiFi then try multiple times for this to upload.

But why does Quicken need to connect with the financial institution at all???

More about my Internet Connection: I am using a Dell XPS with a Docking Station. The Ethernet cable is plugged into the Docking Station (there is no Ethernet port directly on the laptop).

Thanks for the suggestion to check the Connection Log. Here is what I found in the Connlog.txt:

Error code 67186407 (often tied to internal connection logs like kQFFinished: returns 67186407) typically indicates a network timeout, DNS resolution failure, or a secure socket layer/firewall block preventing financial software from communicating with a bank or online server

I tried turning off the NIS Firewall, but still have the problem. I also determined that TlS 1.2 is checked within Internet Options. I'll keep working on it and let you know if I can resolve it. I might call Quicken Support.

@OpenTransmit This is interesting, Whenever I have seen the problem you are encountering it was because the QFX file has the wrong bank ID in it. Edit that file and search for intu.bid. It should be in a four line portion that contains this for the Chase accounts Chase 10898 <\FII> 10898 Elsewhere there should be number<\ACCTID> What this means is that the answer to your question "…why can't that file have a header that includes the financial institution and an account number?" is that it does in fact have that information. It may not be in a "header", but it is there and probably is correct since importing the file works with WiFi. The to 10898 data is stored in Quicken's fidir.txt file which Quicken is constantly updating. I would guess that there is something about your Ethernet connection that prevents Quicken from connecting the way it needs to to get to the bank or get the latest fidir.txt data. But I can't think of anything that you could do with WiFi that you could not do with Ethernet or any setting that would treat one different from the other. I use Ethernet and have never had a problem importing QFX files. I would expect that there'd be some kind of error noted in one of Quicken's log files, probably Connection Log. Maybe time to call Quicken support. If you do solve this problem, please report back. I am interested in learning what is going on. Thanks Jim

NotACPA, thanks for responding. The import files were downloaded from either Chase or Citibank. I have a mixed history with the online Update and have to resort to imported files. I've been using Quicken since the 1990s.

Regarding - "In fact, my desktop computer is WiFi connected to the internet and downloads without issue."  As I explained in my post, I also use WiFi for the connection to the financial institution to work. It does not work on Ethernet when using an XPS. I have had this problem for more than 10 years across multiple XPS PCs. It is a hassle to manually unplug the Ethernet cable, switch to WiFi, and make multiple attempts to upload the file.

If a user downloads files to a QFX file, why can't that file have a header that includes the financial institution and an account number? Then Quicken would know it is from a financial institution that has a contract with Q to authorize downloads. And why does Quicken need a contact with the financial institution? For another revenue stream, when we are paying annual user subscriptions?
