Help! My computer crashed, and I'm trying to access my data on a new Windows laptop.

My old laptop went into a loop to install an update, but nothing happened, and I couldn't do anything with it. I know my Quicken data is out there because I can see a good copy of it in the Android app and also in app.quicken.com, but I don't know how to restore access on my new laptop. Quicken for Windows Desktop is installed, and if I could have used OneDrive, I'd be OK, but that's not permitted now.

How can I get to my cloud data?

I'm very sorry to hear about the computer crash!

The Quicken Cloud is what allows your Quicken data to be accessed through Quicken Mobile and Quicken on the Web, but it is not a backup of your Quicken data file. While information can sync between the Quicken Cloud and the desktop program with an existing data file, the Cloud data cannot be used to restore or recreate a Quicken data file on a new computer.

To restore your Quicken data on the new laptop, you'll need access to either your original Quicken data file or a backup of that file. If you have a backup stored somewhere (such as an external drive or another backup location), you can restore that backup on the new computer.

Please review this support article for more info on the Quicken Cloud, which explains how the Cloud works and the distinction between Cloud sync and backups.

However, I checked your account and can see that you have Quicken Online Backup, so I recommend checking there to see if you have a backup available that you can restore. Please review this Help Article with more info on Quicken Online Backup which also included the instructions below for restoring an Online Backup if you've had one saved that way previously.

Instructions to Restore via Quicken Online Backup:

• Navigate to the File menu or top cloud icon  → View/Restore Backups.
• Verify that you are looking at the correct data file. If you have more than one, you can choose the individual file (by name) using the menu Choose a file to view online backups. In most cases you will want to choose the most recent backup.
• In the View/Restore Backups window, select the desired backup file.
• Select the Restore icon.

• Confirm your choice in the pop-up dialog by clicking Restore Backup.

• Once Quicken has finished downloading and restoring your backup, the backed-up version of your file will become your active file.
