Date format linked to windows 11 short date Issue

I added the Day (Mon, Tue…) to be displayed as the "short date" the taskbar. e.g. "Mon, 8/10/2026" Quicken doesn't handle this well. It changes the date format to DD-MM-YYYY. And ignores the day. Documentation states that the system short date is used as the date "template." Clearly that is not the case no matter how you slice it.

It does use the Windows short date, what is doesn't do is support all possible combinations.

It is very possible to customize the short date to a point where it is not usable in Quicken. For instance there isn't anything stopping someone from customizing it so that the only the month and the year are shown, but without the day it would be useless to Quicken. Now how much should they support? That is another issue, but there are definite problems with haven part it in abbreviations or words because then Quicken has to do the conversion between them and the needed numbers for every date that is displayed, not just take position into account. And in your case it has to know to throw away the day text and parse the rest.

I guess my point is that the short date is part of the windows 11 OS to be used as is, with all options, by the windows users. If quicken wanted a constrict or limit the way to format the date, it should implement those within Quicken and not impose limitations on the OS. If you are going to use a tool available from the OS, they you should support all that the tool does. IMHO

Yeah, considering that they stick deciding what to use for the decimal point and thousand separator in an config file they aren't very consistent on this and I can certainly see cases where the user might not want the dates in Quicken to track the Windows short date.

Maybe posting an idea to allow the user to override these in a setting in Quicken preferences would be a good idea. You and submit one by going to the forum home and selecting New Post → New Idea. I would vote for that.

Fixed the issue to my satisfaction. Changed the short date format to M/d/yy, ddd and bingo, like magic 8/11/26, Tue in the task bar, and 8/11/26 in Quicken. All I wanted is the day to appear.
